What I'm saying is sometimes Asperger's can come off to people as "just shy", although there is a lot more to it than that Are there really people who are "just shy" who don't have Asperger's? What would such people be like? I'd pretty much come to the conclusion that "Asperger's" really refers to ...

They think he is just "shy." I really would like them to get him evaluated. How do you go about doing that? Hi Michelle, I was "just shy" until I was nearly 40 years old at which point my son was diagnosed with autism & as I learned about the spectrum, it all sounded very familiar. I went for a...

everything everyone just said is so me it's scary. It is so weird how the label of my diagnosis can be used to properly predict how I''m going to act in any given situation. I didn't realize *this* was a manifestation of Asperger's too.

Why do people care so much about the causes of autism? Really? Because they want to eliminate us. If you know what causes Autism, you can remove the causes (if the causes are external), or attempt to create a 'cure' - eliminating the existing Autism, then an in utero test, so Autistic babies can be...

Stressed over it in what way? I used to collect stuff when I was much younger but there was a point at which I stopped, and also got rid of the collections that I did have...

There is a big difference between wanting friends & knowing how to have them. I think in this situation the most helpful thing you could do is point out to him the specifics of what makes a good friend/how to be a good friend & what makes a bad friend. This is something I assume he does not ...

I don't collect anything. My parents and my husband's parents are both packrats/hoarders and it makes me crazy!! I can't stand clutter and keep very few material possessions other than "necessities". The only thing I have that could possibly be considered a collection is music CDs.

In a previous job I was promoted to management, I did it for awhile but then stepped down back to my original position. It didn't have to do so much with "ambition" as much as the fact that management requires a lot more dealing with people and attempting to "manage" them which, being an Aspie, is n...

I'm gonna say no offhand only because its much easier to have a conversation with an outgoing NT person than with an aspie, in my experience they know how to keep things rolling. However, maybe I wish everyone had it for a day, or a week, or a month or something so they could relate. Or if everyone ...

Athena, No advice for you but WOW, a lot of what you said sounds like me & my husband. Especially the thing about thinking I'm trying to dominate him (when I'm not) and that my neutral comments are criticisms (when they're not). I've always given him the benefit of the doubt when he says our pro...

Is it possible the ingredients in formula are contributing to the increase in autism? Maybe. If environmental toxins have anything to do with autism-- then I guess its possible synthesized formula could be one of many contributors. BUT, I'm glad several people have already posted that they, or their...
