People definitely treat me differently... in general, they are very nice to me. I have that "lost young woman" vibe, apparently, that makes people go out of their way to help me. I used to feel that occasionally people were being "mean," but after a few years' experience I've come to realize that it...

I've been told that I'm wildly creative; I'm a musician and an artist, but I honestly consider myself more logical/left-brained.

This was one of my favorite parts of the novel, as well. I adored the way she described her own tendency towards enjoying patterns and repetitive tasks being pivotal in establishing this connection. I had a similar experience to that, and what you describe for yourself, with a boy named Travis, that...

Real or perceived, this is definitely something I have trouble with. Self-abuse is not good, and I'm sad to hear when people have a problem with it, but goodness does it sound familiar.

Please take care of yourself.

Please don't misunderstand. I posted this thread because there are things I don't grasp, and I want to. I am not informed, but I'm not ignorant, either, and for that reason I greatly appreciate your post.

I have mixed feelings about Autism Speaks. After reading up on some of the controversial advocacy, I think that they do a lot to help out families affected by autism.

As for aborting fetuses affected by autism... yeah. I'd have to see this one before I believe it.

I wouldn't use it. But if someone is on the lower-functioning end of the spectrum and they would like to try it, why not? Medications of any kind are about the benefits outweighing the potential side-effects.

As a person with diagnosed AS, I'm trying to get more informed about what the "community" has against Autism Speaks. I thought that the organization existed to help people on the autism spectrum.

I'm going to read up on it. Either way... I really don't think that boycotting is the answer.

The true definition of popularity is having a lot of people like you, I think. A sweet nerd who is well-liked and generally respected for his/her intelligence is far from being "unpopular" in the realest sense of the word.

Allergic to latex, along with lots of other things. I think it's interesting that Aspies have a higher than normal tendency to have allergies in general.

I don't mind dresses and skirts... but the way I move, fidget, and sit on my legs in class would probably end up with me unintentionally committing a public indecency crime. :p Pants and shorts are safer.
