Curtis, "mean" to teenagers is a tough one because they are oversensitive to any possible slight: Not inviting someone over. Spending more time with other friends. Not spending enough time with them. Not returning a phone call or text. The list goes on and on (and grows and grows). It is just a lack...

Ken, my son has AS. He is 11 and despises, like all the rest of us, going to my wife's grandmother for Christmas. My wife hates it. The cousins she grew up with hate it. There isn't a single person in that house, other than grandmother and the few of the under-5 set, that actually want to be there. ...

My son Sean is 11 years old, a 6th grader with Aspergers, and a wonderful sense of humor who loves science, math and electronics (and xBox360). He began the school year eating lunch with the other kids but has since moved onto a table by himself. Teachers have felt so bad for him ("the loner") that ...

I went to Auschwitz as a college student having spent a semester in London, and then the summer traveling like a bum country by country, staying in hostels. Such an incredible, moving moment it was to see what the history books made seem impossible. I don't believe in ghosts, but I clearly remember ...

I've driven since 16 without incident, except for one accident several years ago that was totally my fault where I ran a stop sign while also filling out a FEDEX form, listening to the radio loud and trying to finish a cookie. Crash!

Never went to a single dance in high school. Nada. I was even asked to go to prom and turned it down -- and she was pretty! In my heart I knew it would be a social disaster to attend a dance. One, I can't dance and two, what few friends I had never went either. Now that I see my daughter in her firs...

My son is 11 years old, in 6th grade and doing well, which pleases both of us after a rough run the last couple grades that included discipline issues. The school district has offered exemplary support for him, from speech therapists to special rewards programs. Their commitment means all the more t...

Brad, thank you for your post and sharing your experience. I'm a 45 year old who has an 11 year old son with AS. Many of your experiences mirror my own if you simply substitute alcohol for weed, yet you should feel fortunate to have treatments available today that were not available years ago. Do I ...
