rdos, there are places where we seem to overlap, places were we have a different focus, and at other times we have either different studies we respect or different ideas of how evolution operates. Autism, assuming it has several very different causes, offers opportunities for more than one etiology ...

Thank you, rdos, for your focused reply. It's helping me understand what I thought I already understood. This posting, http://bit.ly/4AkDSk offers more detail on the autistic girl or woman. The premise is that autistic (and Aspergers) are folks naturally positioned in a matrifocal society. Females a...

I'm pretty sure we're not talking about the same thing, looking at the questions and answers. Neoteny vs. acceleration as it applies to maturational delay vs maturational acceleration has for more to do with evidence of specific physical and behavioral features than how young you feel or if you look...

That I might have featured Asperger's when I was young never crossed my mind until this year. I'd been studying autism for 12 years. Working for 12 years with the thesis that testosterone informed the rate of maturation, it never struck me that estrogen might manage the timing until last winter when...

“To adopt Dawkin’s gene’s-eye view for a moment, we can see that it would make sense for a gene to take advantage of any developmental opportunity, without caring whether the influence originated inside its organism’s skin or outside it. Viewing this widely ramified network of interactions in terms...

In the evolution section of shiftjournal dot com I've posted several short pieces revolving around these issues of male/female incidence rates and the impact of hormones and social structure on causes. It's blog format easy to post comments. Folks with Aspergers/autism are posting articles there if ...

Eggman, I can't yet link to web pages (wrongplanet software allows me to link after 5 days of participation to prevent spam) but here are some examples...Eight environmental variables influence testosterone, including light (Geschwind & Galaburda, 1987), diet (Schmidt, Wijga, Von Zur Muhlen, Bra...

Both mothers with naturally high levels of testosterone and mothers influenced by the environment whose testosterone levels are raised have increased chances of having an autistic child, according to the hypothesis. I'm hypothesizing that raised mother's estrogen levels ALSO influence the likelihood...

Before the mid twentieth century evolutionary synthesis there was a focus on how traits seem to often slide back and forth when specific environmental influences were in play. The focus on natural selection exclusively as what causes change, shifted the discussion, making it harder for the dynamics ...

What I'm playing with is humans 100,000 years ago or so were still situated in primary process state of mind. Primary process is one time, one place, no opposites. This is the language of the unconscious, very small children, dream, animals and the autistic. Today's autistic reveal features from thr...
