I sing and play the keyboards. On a good day, I'm an okay musician. On a bad day, I tend to hear what I should be playing instead of what I'm actually playing. Selective audition. lol

I don't disclose ASD, just like I don't disclose PTSD. Most people are afraid of words and concepts they don't know - and I believe many don't want to learn. However, I don't usually hide my quirks, and fortunately, I'm a creative person, so many people just shrug and figure I'm the "artist typ...

A lot of people with ASD don't enjoy physical contact with others. Personally, I don't mind hugging people I know and genuinely like. I noticed with time that I react strongly to people's energy, so if they're not in a good place in their life, it will sort of "rub off" on me and I won't f...

Yes, they tend to give me headache, eye-aches and I even get nauseous at times, especially with neon lights.

Been there, done that! When I was in my 20s, my first partner was amazing at gift giving. Me, not so much. On our first X-mas together, I was very excited to give him a... coat tree! He didn't have any other place to put his coat in his apartment, so I figured it was a great idea at the time. I didn...

My body doesn't handle meds very well, so I stay away from prescription drugs. If depression hits too hard, a very small dose of 5-HTP (50 mg once or twice a day) usually helps. At other times, Rhodiola has helped too, but my every day medication against depression is definitely dark chocolate. I ca...

I've been in therapy on and off for the past 15 years and it's been very useful to me. Interaction with a therapist has worked the best so far - not just talking, but having a dialogue about what might be going on and how he/she perceived it. I feel I've learned a lot about myself. One of the things...

Some people, because of something like congestive heart failure, have to sleep, at least, seated, rather than lying down.

Hmm... I hope I don't have that, but I do breathe shallow. Maybe the upright position just makes it easier to breathe, then.

I usually sleep fairly well (lucky me!), except that when I'm stressed out, I need to sleep in a more upright position or else I wake up feeling not well at all. I'm not sure if this is a sensory thing or something else. I was wondering, does anyone else have problems lying down? Thanks!

Sorry that winter is so tough on you... I tend to have difficulty with any extreme weather - hot or cold -, although I definitely prefer winter because there is much less sensory input in general and not so many quick variations in humidity or atmospheric pressure. One question: do you wear syntheti...

Meditation, yoga and qigong work quite well for me. On the meds side, I stay away from prescription meds because I react very strongly to substances. However, at times, small doses of theanin have helped my anxiety. Also, oddly enough, 1 or 2 regular strength Tylenols help too - Tylenols seems to lo...

My every day language is French and one of the funniest translation errors I've seen was on a bathing suit I bought, which was "made in Turkey". Instead of writing "fait en Turquie" (the country), they wrote "fait en dinde" (the bird!). Every time I wore it, I chuckled ...

I believe some people can recover on their own, but the issue is that she has to be willing, and especially ready to do so. This is most likely very sensitive and it can not be forced or come from anyone but her. The best you can do is to support her in whichever step she's at, if she allows it.

What you're describing is called empathy. Many Aspies have the opposite issue, but I can relate to what you're saying. I absorb other people's emotions very easily. When I was in college, it took me a while before I understood that it was much easier for me to be the last for a presentation in front...
