"Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society." (<-- usually attributed to Oliver Wendell Holmes) California used to have the best schools in the country, Detroit used to be livable and not just boarded up, Chicago used to have roads instead of endlessly long stretches of dangerously deep poth... |

Advertising! The ever-increasing, almost-inescapable, rudely intrusive commercials-&-commercialism! Faster, faster... and larger, noisier, more shrill, more and more often and more tightly packed .... ["blip-verts" indeed! <-- w/respectful nod to prescient "Max Headroom"] TV show creators pompou... |

Why not both? I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive. I accept who I am, yet I'm also in therapy. A chance to change the things that make life difficult seems to me like a chance worth taking. I want to continue to grow and learn throughout my life, and therapy is one way to do that. Admit... |

It really is appalling, isn't it; what our current culture does to the poor .... I think everyone who's posted on this topic has the right idea; empty calories, stress, affordability, lack of options ... And I'll add, under lack of options, also geography: The poorest neighborhoods [here in the U.S.... |

Hi. You mention that there's "plenty of instruments around the house for us to play with". That's a good start in life for any child, whether on the spectrum or nt. ;-) Does your daughter show interest in making sounds with the instruments herself? If no one plays those you have around, she may not ... |

<< Sorry, I'm not sure what the official term for it is. >> . Trigger is a good term for it. And yes, we can develop new ones. They can happen not just as we age, but suddenly and sometimes temporarily too; like, during times of high stress or depression. They can come and go -- ie; not only can new... |

At 57, it's still difficult, and I'm still working on it. Or perhaps I've given up working on it [some days, hard to tell, depending on mood and circumstance, and lately having so much else to work on]. But, I've discovered ways and times and situations where it is a bit easier; a.) when I know some... |
