I think it's time to bring this NLD thread back to life! :) In answer to the question before me, in high school I explained to all of my teachers and friends about my NLD. When I started college in August, I thought it'd be an interesting experiment to not tell any of my new friends about my NLD, an... |

Ahhhh, thank you! my teacher wants me to intentionally keep the guidelines vague, so you can basically write about whatever you want :P whatever comes to mind first when thinking about your experience with NLD is probably a good place to start :) you can send it to me via message on here, or I think... |

I don't have AS- I have NLD, clinical depression, generalized anxiety disorder/social anxiety, and touches of OCD but we haven't done anything about that yet. my depression is much better now that I'm on medication, but my anxiety has been wreaking havoc on my life for the past few months, especiall... |

What a great idea! I'd love to contribute, although I may not have time immediately. I also look forward to reading what other people have to say. :) "One foot on the spectrum" is a great way to put it. As a person diagnosed with NVLD but not AS, this is very much how I see myself. There are some r... |

I thought I should post this here: I have a blog about NLD, and for a final project at school I've decided to open up my blog and ask other people with NLD/AS/other LDs to contribute posts. I want to give other people the chance to write about their lives, seeing as there are so few first-hand accou... |

I've been wondering- do any of you NLDers have trouble with empathy? because that's something that I've been struggling with a lot lately... |

Hi, I'm new here, & I had a few questions about NVLD. First, I've noticed that NVLD can make it hard for kids to become independent, and for parents to know how to help this happen. It's a no-win situation for parents--if they try to force the child with NVLD to do some problematic motor or sel... |

Wow, I was expecting some interesting responses, but what everyone's been saying is fascinating! I'm definitely pro-neurodiversity, and I don't agree with the idea of prenatal testing and the Autism Speaks-like sentiments... But after I met the father of twin autistic boys who were more low-function... |

So does anyone else NOT like your hand flapping? :-( my mom used to not like it, I think... I believe it's because hand-flapping was the only obvious visual sign that makes me "look autistic", so it always kind of took her by surprise. Also, my family used to tease me about hand-flapping with good ... |

I just posted about this on my blog, but I figured I'd post here too... I've just started a paper in school about the neurodiversity and pro-cure movements, and I was wondering what everyone's general opinions are about both sides of the argument! I know that's the "hot question" in the autism commu... |

I only see it as a problem because I'm worried about overloading myself... I don't want to burn out! |

Innawoodenhouse: Why is NLD not included in DSM-IV under the PDD-NOS criteria? What are the characteristics of NLD that it is an Autistic Spectrum Disorder but fails to meet the criteria for PDD-NOS? I always thought NLD was diagnosible in DSM as PDD-NOS, if not AS itself. Alas, it hasn't officiall... |

Well what do you know, NLD hasn't been included anywhere in the DSM. Again. ARGH!
But if all ASDs are now considered "Autistic Disorder" in the DSM, is the whole thing irrelevant? Would I simply be diagnosed with autism, not NLD, if I were retested, according to the DSM?
I don't get it |

I'm experimenting with writing a blog about NLD... God only knows why! I just find the lack of NLD blogs/information so ridiculous that I thought I'd do my part to change that
Anyway, here it is: http://onefootonthespectrum.wordpress.com/ |
