I always felt I had to lie to get jobs. It was painful but I did it. Now I have my own business and I tell the truth to my clients. If they don't want what I can genuinely offer, then allowing them to hire me would only end in tears (literally! I cry a lot) Lying to a sexual partner saying you're no... |

I cry a lot when I have arguments with my partner because I can't handle the emotions. Usually when I start crying it means I am on the way to a meltdown. I should learn to remove myself from the situation as soon as I start crying because normally we carry on arguing until I have a full meltdown an... |

Math is a huge subject. You will have strengths in some parts and weakness in others. I recommend watching Temple Grandin's talk about different kinds of minds. She mentions math a little, but in general how the autistic mind can excel in particular areas and need help with others, or even find them... |

I don't believe the OP said there was no childhood history asked about, though may have missed that. And a skilled interviewer can learn enough about childhood history from a verbal adult to make a diagnosis. More tests may provide more reassurance what is going on, but that is an extremely expensi... |

I have some sympathy with this. I find myself thinking: "can it really be true? Is this all a mistake?" I am sometimes quite sad at realizing that the distance I feel from people is the result of an actual difference between me and them. This can make me want it not to be true. The speedy... |

@gamerdad Thanks, that does help, although I wonder if I really show outward signs.
I would be interested to read the post you linked to but the link is not working |

Thanks. She did say there would be a report but I haven't received it yet. I hope it will be as detailed as you suggest. At the beginning of the session she asked me if there was someone in my family she could talk to if needed. I said that my parents were against the idea but that my aunt would pro... |

The psych just talked with me for 2 hrs. There were no scientific tests. How can she have really known? I am worried that I exaggerated things. I was the centre of attention and she was asking me if I have problems with this and that, so I might have over-emphasised things. Especially since I kind o... |

Thank you for your replies. I guess I need to take care of myself for the next few weeks/months and let my mind sort itself out. It is quite a weird thing, being diagnosed. Even though I was expecting it, I hadn't really imagined how it would affect me. No surprise there, lol! |

Hi. I was diagnosed with ASD recently after suspecting it for a long time. I have always been anxious and have always self-medicated with alcohol but I have always hoped it would some day be cured. Now I am starting to think that the anxiety is here to stay. Learning about AS and anxiety, well, it j... |

voleregard, your original post had me crying with laughter. It's so true! You've described something so familiar, with more skill than I ever could. They see the 5 minute solution, and not the 30 it takes for me to take care of all the fallout of their simple fix. And they kind of sneer at you like ... |

Ok, so the tests were not the assessment? I just did them myself online. They are available here http://www.aspietests.org/ I did the Cambridge Face/Voice Battery ones and the Reading the Mind in Films one. I chose them because they don't rely on self-reporting. The AQ and similar tests ask you que... |
