I've been following the posts on the FB page in question since I last posted. These seem to be the main points the lunatic is trying to make: -Aspergers shouldn't be called Autistic -Autistic people are mindless animals -Asperger's and Autism are brain damage caused by mercury in vaccines -There is ...

I think that painting would be exactly equivalent to the poem, lol.

The FB page has since been retitled: "Cure Asperger's, Prevent Fraud by Ari Ne'emen." Basically, it's a bunch of insane ranting about us being poisoned by mercury in vaccines, and how we could all easily be "cured" if only Autism Speaks and WrongPlanet would stop denying that we're all brain damaged...

What is your definition of "irrational"? My definition may differ from yours, but some of the things that I feel kind of silly about being afraid of are: making phone calls, walking across bridges, and traffic jams. Over the years I've learned to just force myself to carry on regardless, and I'd lik...

If I'm not expecting it, there's often a lag time -- "Hmm, that was an odd thing for them to say... Oh, oh, I get it. Ha ha."

Yeah, I guess if someone said they'd written that for me, I'd be confused too.
Perhaps they're saying you make them feel vulnerable?

I think it's basically about mortality, and even while we try to perfect our souls, our bodies work against us.

"Mental illness" implies a debilitating psychiatric disorder with a cause and treatment. AS does not meet this criteria.
Find a list of public figures confirmed or believed to have Asperger's. It's quite impressive, and may change your daughter's attitude.

I just watched a psychologist on the Piers Morgan CNN show describe autistics and Aspies as having no empathy. He tried to kind of back down later, but the overwhelming impression was that we're potentially dangerous.

I can't begin to describe the resentment I feel toward this decision. It's going to encourage irresponsible diagnoses by lazy psychiatrists, stigmatize Aspies, and put unrealistic expectations on autistics. Worse, considering the growing awareness of autism -- this decision smells a lot like politic...
