I support calling this the "Fartsniffer Test"! :) I can imagine a parent saying "My child is in the process of being tested for autism. She's been given a number of tests. Today she goes in for her Fartsniffer Test!" I wonder if the reason autistic kids don't adjust their sniffin...

Hi! I think everyone else has given good advice. I just wanted to bring one thing up. I'm not sure where your friend lives, but in some places it's hard to get an Asperger's diagnosis for a woman. A regular doctor, psychologist or psychologist may not recognize it, and even if they suspect it they'd...

. To me this is significant because it shows that even when approaching autism in purely clinical terms, autism still needs to be understood as something other than "meeting diagnostic criteria for ASD." Even if the disability is eliminated (by changes in coping skills, life circumstances ...

Is Wrong Planet a curbie forum? I've heard rumors to this effect. That WP is influenced by autism speaks. 8O I had to look that word (curbie) up. LOL. As far as I know, WP is simply an online forum where people openly share their personal experiences, thoughts and ideas. If I don't care for what pe...

I don't think the "no white" rule applies to band or other topical t-shirts.

I agree that it sounds like anxiety or OCD. It could also be PTSD if she's had something happen to a family member in the past.

If she doesn't have other autistic traits, this one trait wouldn't mean she was autistic.

I read the article. Does Belinda Bauer have first experience of Aspergers? how did she portray the main character? is the portrayal a correct representation of somebody with Aspergers or is the main character merely Sheldon Cooper in another guise? I'm an Aspie and a writer, but in all seriousness,...

I don't think the author ever intended for her character to have something. But it is a good speculation because over the years, how many of the kids did actually have something but were just seen as strong willed or bratty or very imaginative or odd or quirky or very smart, absent minded, lazy, ca...

I was wondering if anyone here was heavily into Beverly Cleary's Ramona Quimby series growing up and if you think Ramona was an fictional case of undiagnosed AS and ADHD. She was always getting into trouble with both the teachers and other kids without knowing what she did was wrong and why it was ...

This forum has many people who are agonising over the pros and cons of going for a professional confirmation of their self-diagnosis of ASD. There are lots of people who have had their self-diagnosis confirmed, and there are lots of people who have been unable to access any kind of assessment proce...

As far as accommodations go I highly disagree with this. I was given accommodations all through out high school and all it did was cripple me for the real world. It took some time but after failing so many college courses I finally learned how to learn. Ironic that I had to learn how to learn. Afte...

The Jeremy Vine show is on now and they seem to be talking about Asperger's and how it affects people and especially intimate relationships. I've switched it on part way through and there's music on now, but next speaker is to be a guy with Asperger's. You can listen to it here for the next 6 days:...

As there is no actual treatment for aspergers it would be much more efficient for you to work on the parts of your life that you can change, and accept that none of us are perfect. Often life does not make sense, try to make the best of what you have got. Best wishes, NW. Thanks! :) There are vario...

Another thing that just bothered me recently--some people were saying that the fictional character Anne of Green Gables was Asperger's, or had many Asperger's traits, and if she was a real person in today's world she might be diagnosed as such and oculd be used as a model for girls on the spectrum. ...
