Having just read the title, I had a picture in my head of a psychologist cutting through a jungle to get to a village in the middle of nowhere to diagnose the residents.
Taking things literally?

Thanks for the replies. I understand, of course, that if the criteria isn't present, than the problem isn't Asperger's. I just didn't know if there was anything that is used (when most of the criteria is met) to rule it out. I read a post a few weeks ago about someone who was certain that she had i...

I've been reading about Asperger's for several weeks now. I've read a good deal about the diagnostic criteria and common symptoms. I was wondering if anyone here knew if there are any signs that indicate that the problem is not Asperger's? Any red flags used to rule Asperger's out?

Pretty much correct, but to be specific, it's the Reverse Halo Effect. Congrats, A-markz!

If you all liked this game, let me know and I'll write up more episodes of "Name That Cognitive Bias!".

Found that very interesting. I'd be up for more.

I remember watching an episode of voyager when I was little in which a woman tries to form an emotional relationship with a Vulcan, which of course is not reciprocated. Through the episode, they showed flashbacks of the Vulcan's training in controlling his emotions. I was about 5 or 6 at the time an...

I think the main point is that autism is not something which you "have". You have a cold or a broken arm. These can come and go and it'll make no difference, but "autism" is simply a name for the type of person you are. Thats an interesting way to look at it. They told us the exact opposite in my s...

Took the EQ, SQ, and FQ. I didnt copy the scores but they were all in the aspie range. On the other hand...

About a month ago we briefly discussed ASDs in my biology class. Some of what the teacher mentioned sounded familiar, so I started doing some research. Some of the things I read about seemed to fit perfectly while others didn't. I joined WP and I have been reading the forums. At the same time, I kee...

A psychiatrist could help. Or . . . try watching a movie considered to have brilliant acting . . . if you don't get why, that could be an indication. Your avatar looks like a guy hatching from an egg, and you are an "emu egg." It made me smile and feel quite joyous. Oddly enough, I'm actually a the...

I've been looking at information on AS for a few weeks, since our bio teacher briefly discussed ASDs. A few things she mentioned sounded familiar so I started reading about it online. I have several traits: social problems, sensory problems, attention problems, obsessive interests... What I'm not su...
