Absolutely. I see a lot of people who say that they wouldn't necessarily want to change who they are, but I don't think there is anything special about who I am--if anything, it just causes a lot of problems for me. If a cure for AS could help me live a more fulfilling life, with friends and a job a...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Is Aspergers overdiagnosed?

I'm worried that it's over-diagnosed because of the possibility that I might be part of the excess diagnoses, and so the explanation I have for many of my problems would be wrong. I was diagnosed before I knew what it was; I remember my mother taking me to see shrinks when I was in elementary school...

Chase Whiteside from New Left Media. Only person I can think of off the top of my head. He does great work, and... I kinda like him, too. 8)

I see it a lot on this site, other such sites, and literature about Asperger's Syndrome. I see people saying that they don't want to change, that we shouldn't want to change, that we shouldn't want a cure, that we should be proud, and that, if NTs don't understand us, then they are at fault. But I d...

I think she is a good pop musician, and I listen to her sometimes when I get bored of what I usually listen to (which is prog rock and metal). I also admire that she seems more invested in the cause of LGBT rights than just about any other celebrity at the moment; it doesn't look to me like it's str...

Just wondering. When I'm alone for any significant length of time, I pine for company and social activity. Loneliness sucks any joy in life that there might be for me right out; I can't remember the last time I was so passionate about something that, if I could focus on it, I wouldn't mind being alo...

I just want to know if it's normal. I can't stand having company over. Although I feel best when I'm home alone, I can tolerate being around my family. I can't stand it, however, when, for example, my sister brings her friends over. It's not just because they're annoying--even though they are, they ...

If the equal protection clause stands for anything, it is the proposition that the majority cannot be allowed to dictate the rights of minorities. xenon 13 has it absolutely right--the rule of law is imperiled by subjecting judges to the scrutiny of the electorate. The minority isn't allowed to tra...

It's hard for me to really talk to anyone anymore, but in elementary school, I remember being much more comfortable talking to teachers than to other students.

I think I still am, maybe, but not by quite as much.

Just wondering: why do we hate Autism Speaks? Is it one of those organizations that wants to cure autism? Because I actually wouldn't mind being cured, to be honest.

Since I started high school three years ago (I'm in my fourth and final year now), I've spent almost every waking moment thinking about how much my life sucks and how much better it would be if I had some friends--people whom I could talk to on a daily basis and maybe do stuff with on weekends. I'm ...

I bought ME1 just two weeks before ME2 came out because it was on sale, not because I wanted to prepare for ME2 or anything. I loved it. I just liked the characters and the whole universe of the game so much. I was worried because I heard the game had some technical problems, but the game was just s...

Friends. It's difficult to stay on any MMORPG for long without any. I felt really close to my FFXI linkshell, and that was the only real reason the game was any good to me. The story and the music were also really good, but my linkshell (basically a guild in FFXI) is what made the really grindy game...

My family uses my phone more than I do. It's always, "Can I use your phone?" because theirs is charging or something, or it's just more convenient to borrow mine. I also pretty much only get calls from family, and they're usually not for me. Yeah, I don't call people often. No one wants to talk to m...

Yes and no. Some people, when speaking to me, suddenly become more formal and less friendly in their speech. I don't know if it's because they're intimidated or if I'm unapproachable or whatever. On the other hand, some are incredibly patronizing and treat me like a little kid. My great aunt does th...
