I get very fixated too. The funny thing is that because I was never diagnosed, I fought really hard to overcome my socially awkward behavior and am now, at 42, totally fine with talking to people (doesn't mean I make friends, but I can hold a conversation. I just don't have lasting friendships. Anyw...

I think channeling means (I also used do that unconsciously and also don't do it anymore now) when you're talking to somebody, or spending lots of time with them in a work environment etc, you're taking on their mannerisms, their speech patterns etc. Sometimes in a social environment people notice i...

Definitely. I'd always done weird things, like going dancing on my own, not talking to people and just spending 4 hours on the dancefloor, drinking water, and driving myself home in the end - but I felt bad about it and always tried to be more socially acceptable. After I had accepted for myself tha...

My son said to me recently- "You have no idea how horrifying it is to go there everyday!" How heartbreaking! My heart goes out to you and him. Take him out of school immediately. I'm guessing you live in a country were homeschooling is a legal option? I went through that with my son - diagnosed at ...

This is tied I think to my identity issues/no sense of self because I'm always in flux according to who I interact with. Oops. Now THAT is clever. I didn't realise this until I was about 40 (and even then didn't connect it with my suspected Aspergers.) The advantage in my life has been that I've co...

I only ever had one job I was able to stay in for 3 1/2 years - it was inbound customer service and there was literally no pressure at all. But I've learned to work in other ways, running my own things. Teach a skill other people want to learn, run their social media, have an idea and get it funded,...

Anyway, I find that after talking to these people like once or twice, they shun me too! I I'm wondering what 'shunning' means. There is a cultural model of 'friendship', depending on the cultural environment we move in. When you aim to make friends,, you expect people to act a certain way at a cert...

That age between 4 - 5 is very difficult for children. My son, now 13, switched personalities completely, but he says he remembers the time before 4 - 5 and how much of what was in his head he couldn't, or wouldn't want to, talk about. He did draw intricate mazes at that age. Have you shown your son...

A few quick points, from a woman's point of view. I'm glad you are having this discussion and some of the points sound very sensible. Now get this. Women like me who were raised to see themselves as equal partners look at the 'golddiggers' who we used to despise. Now they have big houses, even if th...

In my experience, this comes with practice. In my teens and early twenties I had the exact same thing, but of course this was back in the eighties, where diagnosis was far less common. So I was never diagnosed. So I understand a bit. A few things. Yes it's good to learn the theory of human interacti...

Once in India I found this: Vicco Vajradanti http://www.viccolabs.com/vicco/Products.aspx?ProdNo=M7

If you have Indian supermarkets where you are, you might be able to find it. They sell it here in London in a number of places, fortunately... I could never go back to regular toothpaste.

I'm on twitter and it's completely changed the way I work. (I'm @the_anke). As with any network, you get out of it what you put in. It seems random to begin with - just like if you went into a place with millions of people talking to each other. But once you found a few people that are talking about...

Can one of you Danish speakers do a quick audio recording of 'Jeg kokar gulerøtter' and 'rødgrød med fløde'? I swear it's the funnest thing. Use Audioboo if you don't want to be on youtube :) And now something in German: Wenn Fliegen fliegen, fliegen Fliegen Fliegen hinterher. When flies fly, then f...

Sometimes random 'sexual orientation' polls end up with only people who give their sexuality a lot of thought fill them out and 'mainstream' oriented people ignoring them, resulting in a huge slant toward anything outside the mainstream.

Just a thought.
