Thanks, everyone, for the responses so far. Another question that maybe some of you could answer:
What information about AS do you wish your neurotypical classmates had at the start of college? |

Thanks for the great tips, people. I would love some more, and also possibly some relevant personal anecdotes about your time in college/university.
Thanks again! |

Hi all, I haven't been on the forums in a while, mostly because of classes, but I wanted to ask for your help with something. As a project for one of my classes, I'm writing a handbook for aspies who are starting out in college or university, with advice from those of us who have learned from our ow... |

I agree with Zokk. AS is only 'cured' as long as you are on the diet so it is not really cured. That is like saying I'm cured by my fatigue for eating healthy but if I stray from that diet I will become fatigued again. By the way my symptoms are just inattentive ADHD. Also that amount of vitamins l... |

Yes this happens to me quite often. Somehow I don't have the spacial awareness to realize when I'm in someone's way. It's very embarrassing when someone has to tell me to move out of the way. |

The diet is therapeutic, and nothing else. It doesn't 'cure' anything; it only makes symptoms easier to manage, assuming it does anything at all, and assuming that the patient/subject would be known to benefit from it in the first place. I agree with this. Point of clarification: My use of the phra... |

All of the people saying that you can't rewire the brain aren't exactly correct. There are many ways to rewire the brain. The one that is most well known is repetition of specific thought patterns. When your brain receives a stimulus, it is automatically transmitted down a specific pathway that has... |

The sound of people dumping coins into those CoinStar machines. We have one at work and if I'm working at a register anywhere near it I get super anxious and almost lightheaded. |

The worst part is, my boyfriend and I don't even have sex. My parents know this. Yet they still find the simple act of staying over at his house to be improper. And I can't really be sneaky about it, because when I'm home for the weekends they wait up for me to come home to make sure that I'm not st... |

My parents and I are currently having a disagreement. I am a 20-year-old college student who pays for her own apartment but stops home on the weekends. I think that I should be allowed the freedom to stay overnight at my boyfriend's house if I desire to do so. My parents, on the other hand, feel tha... |

When I think of numbers 1-10 they each have their own color, mostly lighter shades or pastels, but 5 is always bright red. Once I get past 10 the numbers have similar coloring to their single-digit counterparts (ie 16 is close to 6 in color) but the colors get deeper and more vivid the higher they a... |

I often find myself pulling at my eyebrows when I'm stressed, anxious, or deep in thought. I haven't always done that. The habit didn't develop until college I think, probably because of the increased stress levels. I've pulled at them so much that I've had bald patches in my eyebrows. I associate i... |

He has a very low IQ yet has aspergers? Yes. Not everyone with Aspergers has a high IQ. He has his strength(s) (Beatles trivia immediately comes to mind), but yes, along with the difficulties that go with having Aspergers, he also (most likely a result of being oxygen deprived at birth) has a more ... |

My uncle, who also has Aspergers, has been easily scammed in the past. It's due to the fact that he accepts people and their actions at face value. So when someone working at a restaurant smiles at him, acts friendly, maybe remembers his name, he thinks that person is his friend. There have been peo... |
