I don't really care about labels, but I have found in the past that a lot of the things that help Aspies who want to act more NT help me, too - such as a computer program I found once that teaches recognition of facial expression. I don't know how you get taught proper eye contact. Probably through ...

I'd like to work in the non-profit sector. Just that, generally, non-profit, without specification. I feel strongly about a lot of issues. I like working at places where I actually feel I'm doing something I can be proud of, and where my co-workers actually care about what they are doing. *sigh* I ...

I'm afraid of going on disability, because I think I would stop trying at life. I find having something I'm "required" to do helps me. However, it is really hard for me to keep a job...what are the advantages and disadvantages of going on disability?

I agree that psychiatry and psychology can be misapplied, and to VERY bad result. However, PLEASE heed the warning that Scientology is a dangerous cult. http://www.xenu.net is a good resource. Even if they throw a few grains of truth in with their poison, Scientologists still offer...well, poison. I...

Not sure if this is the right category for this thread. I noticed that there are a lot of threads in this category dealing with law enforcement: how they react to A/AS individuals, discrimination, problems with authority, the need to educate law enforcement, and how we can best relate to officers of...

We should make a thread just for talking about interacting with law enforcement. There seem to be a lot of threads going that way. Is there one already, or should I start one? Or could someone else who knows how this works do it?

I like that definition. Hopefully now we can stop arguing about terminology. I agree, though. Instead of worrying about things he might not have (or even want), why not focus on what he does have? My only "posse" was made of me and 3 friends, and that didn't come about until high school. Before that...

Let's take this thread in a less hostile direction.

For those of us who want to help "low-functioning autistics" (whether or not you like the term), how would we start? Where is a good place to volunteer, for example?

Has anything happened with this? Keep us informed. Are the 30 days of him stuck in the hospital up yet? I have mixed feelings about the police. One of my rennie friends got discriminated against for having a job that involves so much traveling. The deputies at the Colorado Ren Faire are being very n...

Well met! I'll go by Dragonflai on this forum. My doctor told me just a few years ago that she thought I had Asperger's. She asked if I wanted classes on appropriate eye contact, but I turned them down. I'm 25 years old. I also have major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. I love ...
