Thank you for posting this informative article. As someone who has suffered from chronic stress and chronic depression, I found it very interesting. I have noticed that my cognition seems to have declined over the past year or so, and I've developed sensory sensitivities which I didn't have before. ... |

I think a lot of people with AS do well in one-on-one interactions. It's the group situations that are the real test. |

What a story! :) Well, first of all, as I was reading about how the school was treating your daughter, I was thinking "Please tell me you removed your daughter from this school..." and then I got to the part where you said you'd changed her to a private school. What a relief! I think you did enough ... |

Thanks everyone for your replies! I agree that I need to keep my daughter right away from this girl. If my daughter is having trouble understanding that she's mean and that she shouldn't speak to her, etc. I think I'll just have to make a concerted effort to keep her as far from her as possible, eve... |

Aspie: 109 out of 200 NT: 122 out of 200 "You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits" ETA: Darn, I wish I'd posted my graph like others are doing! I had quite a neat shape evenly covering both the AS and NT spheres, with a slight spike in the NT social skills section (I wonder if tha... |

Hi there, About 8 months ago I became friends with a lady in my area. She has a 5-year-old NT daughter who I took almost an instant disliking to, because she was very rude and bratty. She is an only child and is very indulged (has every toy imaginable) and receives no discipline and her parents turn... |

That is absolutely brilliant that the school is being so efficient and proactive at getting your son special ed resources and also keeping you in the loop! When my daughter got her autism dx partway through kindergarten, it still took them a month and a lot of nagging on my part and the classroom's ... |

BIG HUGS! It's a big transition for you and your son. It will take him time to adapt to the classroom but you will probably see him make some big strides this year. With my daughter, I've always noticed the most progress in the second half of the school year. It's like she spends the first half of t... |

I've heard that some girls and women with ASD are able to teach themselves social skills so well that others don't realise they're autistic. Females are especially good at mimicry and some women become so good at it that over time they no longer realise that they're doing it. It's for this reason th... |

I always carry a handbag on one shoulder so I have one arm bent with my hand holding onto the strap of the handbag while my other arm either hangs loosely or is carrying a shopping bag or something. I think if you have a shoulder bag with one hand holding the strap then you will look less stiff beca... |

I'm glad that your son is ok and I hope he continues to be ok! I tend to be wary about vaccination as well and prefer to reserve it now for situations where there's a definite and specific need -- like in your son's case with cutting his foot. I don't believe that vaccinations cause autism but I hav... |

*APPLAUSE* What an awesome story. You handled it so well!! Thank you for helping to educate the world about autism, one person at a time. Maybe this woman will think twice before opening her mouth next time. Hopefully she is seeing ASD with a whole new understanding. I believe that every time we edu... |
