I am wondering if this thread should be locked, since the OP has separately posted a change in his opinions since the thread started. Thoughts? We do have other posters arguing the same position and if you close this one they may just make a new thread on the subject to continue. Perhaps if possibl...

[quote= In the UK a diagnosis is not essensial to get help. Disabled support for students based on their difficulties, not on their diagnosis. Having a diagnosis may help explain those difficulties but isn't the golden ticket. My nephew receives all the help and support my daughter does but is not d...

I personally decided to for many reasons. I was brought up to work and I am therefore the black sheep of the family (not to say it is better to have AS than a mental health problem) I have never achieved anything in the same way as the rest of my family, it is not that I am incapable I just need to ...

700: Not to challenge you. I really want to know. Why, "Never Again?" Some elaboration would really help us all better understand why you would not do it again given the opportunity. As one who is considering getting the DX (though it is in the U.S.), I want to hear from everyone, pro or con, as to...

You are kidding me ! I tried to go to college a few years(before I realized what was wrong) ago it was a nightmare I had a advocate at the time and he said a diagnosis would not make any difference at all to how I was treated In the UK, you can apply for disabled student allowance, to pay for any e...

Yee-you wanna know about fun? Going to public places knowing you're going to make a fool of yourself. Embarrass your parents [turns his head to the right] Aw sh**! [recovers] My dad... finally couldn't take it anymore. He... divorced my mom, s-said he'd still be around, but I only see him at Christ...

I don't think I could work outside the home again, but thanks to the miracle of technology I don't have to. I just make some websites, write some articles, and Google Adsense and the Amazon affiliate program pay me every month. No human contact needed. I'll save the welfare for people who need it. ...

Equally someone could say of you that you can't really be affected by anything seriously because you are able to access the internet, to type, to interact with other people. They could say that all the people they know who are seriously affected by autism would be completely unable to do this. And ...

For myself, for many years, it wouldn't have been worth it. There was nothing to gain other than self-knowledge, which I already had. However, as a student, there is support available, and so I got the diagnosis specifically for support as a student. In my future workplaces, I doubt I'll use it, be...

I don't think it's true that every person who can legally offer a professional diagnosis is aware of how Asperger's can express itself in an adult. If someone knows nothing more than the basics of the criteria and not the myriad ways that criteria can manifest, particularly in an adult, then they a...

I showed it to an NT coworker. He kept repeating "I don't get it.". Now he thinks I was making fun of him because he cant figure it out. I've only told him a dozen times about aspergers. Oh well, I'll explain it to him later. It was funny to see the confusion on his face instead of mine for a chang...

Well AS or not my parents would NEVER have stood for this behavior and I think that it is probably the same for alot of the older people on this site. And by having strict parents you withdraw inside yourself which if you are a female is not questioned that much especially in a area that is still n...

Try not to worry to much and just try one topic at a time to start. One of the best things about this site is the wide range of topics and I think people always take the time to put their opinion across which is usually very informative. Youare heading in the right direction anyway :D
