I guess my situation is more the norm than I realized! GardenGirl414, I'm glad you posted, seeing how other parents are handling the situation helps me collect "data" on what move to make next. Since Kaiser is so centrally managed, I may call and just see if I can ask if we can be diagnosed by a psy...

So, I finally got in to an initial meeting with a psychiatrist so I could get an official diagnosis for my daughter. My main motivation is to have the tools I need to effect changes at school. I know a psychiatrist is usually there to write prescriptions - at least in my limited experience, but I wa...

I have one NT and one Aspie. I had that same thought "if I could only raise "me" again, I would know exactly how to guide her" but turns out, with my limited patience the case was really the opposite. Let me say that I'm not diagnosed but can see that I have some Aspie traits - not as much as my dau...

I don't know anything about your background but I can say with some AS characteristics myself, I find being a parent even with a spouse is probably more difficult than for someone who has almost no AS traits. My traits are impatience, easily frustrated, squimish and less "touchy feely" than others. ...

From a parent's perspective, I would say that the frustration comes in when it seems like my daughter is purposely zoning out, not paying attention, or being defiant. I suppose if she said "I'm really trying to understand but I'm not getting it." then I would know that she needs a different approach...

My 10 yr old daughter's take on distressed jeans as she noticed them in a mall shop window: "I don't get this whole distressed jeans thing. I mean just buy a regular pair of jeans, you're going to fall down eventually!" I'm also impressed that she used the term "distressed jeans" - must have picked ...

Thanks again for your honest input, I need to hear that to keep myself in check. We had a family gathering yesterday and she got a little out of line with her uncle who is a retired army captain. She likes to play with him and kept taking his cap off which he didn't think was funny the first time an...

Thank you all for your support and advice. I find I get much less frustrated the more I come here and read the posts from parents and those with AS (and both). I don't want to really let myself off the hook entirely, I know I can't spend a lot of time drowning in guilt but I want to own up to it to ...

(Book Noodles, that cat is beautiful!) For the organizational comment - wow, that is so my daughter! The teachers are concerned all the time that "she's bright but missing assignments, unorganized" - like a broken record on her report card. I bought her several different types of binders, notepads, ...

I'm relatively new here (I lost my old account info a long time ago). I'm here to learn more about my wonderful 10 year old daughter. I'm also here to find a place to "confess" that I haven't been the best mom to her. Where to start. I love her dearly and can hardly stand to be away from her more th...

Wow, this is probably why my daughter is so frustrated in 5th grade - soon to be 6th. I think the teacher should have said "Really? How is it wrong, come up and show me." So the teacher was wrong to insist he/she is right but your son does need to understand that taking over the whiteboard is kind o...
