My son has persitent gastro problems and I didn't know why. Once I got his sensory disorder and 'need for sameness' under control, his diet vastly expanded in selection. Once his diet expanded his gastro problems went away. |

Though I haven't been around long enough yet to know if it is usual for people to explain absences beforehand or not. I'm just really bogged down with life right now. My job stinks, it's tough being a single mother, my "divorce" is not going smoothly, and I just feel so danged exhausted all the tim... |

Based on my experience and stories from others, I strongly suggest you learn how to use xbox and any other online forum your child is on. I also suggest you insist one of the rules for being on these games/sites is that you have the passwords. You should go online and check all the messages and post... |

Some students need their parents to be more involved until they are older. You should take time out of your day to make sure he does his homework. This may require you to have an assignment notebook signed off by his teachers everyday. If you want his homework done you will have to do more parenting... |

I am not aware of any state specific forum on here. If you are looking for a local group you might want to check on meetup.com or start one on there instead of Yahoo. |

I am in IL. Illinois is basically bankrupt. Having medicaid in IL has changed in the past few years. A situation like you described used to be easy, like you said. Now because IL doesn't pay their medical bills for over a year and often denies legitimate bills all together, the doctors either don't ... |

The very best piece of advice I can provide is trust your gut instinct with the psychologist you have chosen. If you gut tells you what the pdoc is saying doesn't feel right then it isn't. Always remember just because they have a degree doesn't mean they are right. I am saying this because, although... |

I wish that somehow the playing field could be leveled between alternative therapies and Big Pharma. Some alternatives may be very effective but due to the tremendously high cost of getting things through FDA trials, it is impossible to bring them to market as an FDA approved product or to even con... |

Bjtao, we had previously been artifical flavor, dye, preservative, etc free and I did see reduction in frustration and agitation but nothing as significant as what I am seeing now. Since my son has been pretty stable, it made it a lot easier to start cleaning up stuff like that. I have had many unr... |

I love this thread! Thanks for posting. Unfortunately for me, my personality is not condusive to having a PDD child AT ALL. I am not detail oriented, I can't relate to having alternative learning needs, I am an 'on the fly', no plans needed type person. The only thing that helped my son is my insane... |

A lot of us are Aspie/Aspieish and are adverse to trying things with no scientific evidence behind it. Also, wherever there are parents who are desperate for help, there are scams to capitalize on that. Lots of us are cautious for that reason. (Not trying to start a flame war ---just answering the ... |

IDK what dose of Abilify the doc put him on, but this is very strong medication. A change of .5mg either way can make a huge difference. Also, it is often helpful to reduce Abilify rather than increase if any issues get worse. My son ended up being on 2.5mg. We increased in .5mg doses and ended up h... |
