This is similar to the line other people use about me--"that's just the way Mercutio is..." There's a connotation of judgement involved, as if I should "be some other way."

I laughed. I live in the Bible Belt, and it's scarily accurate.

A third party eh? We had that, once, who promised the best of both worlds and ended up being sent straight back to the political wilderness for the next hundred years. Just a fair warning. The G.O.P. aka the Republicans finally put an end to chattel slavery. Something which the Whigs and Democrats ...

I went to confession maybe twice in 6th or 7th grade. I was never confirmed as a Catholic and I quit attending church when I moved out. My family made a huge fuss about this for years but I've stood firm all my life. Confession creeped me the f*** out, yes, but taking communion is also pretty creepy...

I'm better about it than I used to be. As a teacher, I have to be an authority figure all day. The kids usually figure out what they can and can't get away with me. They are usually cooperative because I work hard at making the class a good place for them to be. I know that I'm a pushover most of th...

I teach special education, "emotionally disturbed." The kids seem to like me a lot, but I am not very good at being a disciplinarian.

I loathe the telephone. Although I suck at a lot of body language and facial expression clues, I can often tell if someone is being dishonest if I can see their face. That is probably a big part of the problem for me, because trusting the wrong people has been a disaster for me so often in the past....

42. if someone asks what you think about the work they have done, they do not want to know what you think. As far as I can tell they want: a) comment about a feature of the work to show understanding b) compliment their brilliance c) pretend you don't understand a second part so they get to explain...

2) Weed in small doses can relax the anxiety and let you drift off. Valium can also work if you have issues with illegal substances. I really can't do either of these. Any kind of mood altering chemical sends me careening and crashing. My behavior is super-erratic. Anytime they give me pain killers...

I am curious about other's experiences with sleep disruptions. I have had trouble falling asleep since I was a little kid, often lying awake until 2 or 3 am. For many years I had night shifts because I couldn't sleep. Sometimes I would be super tired and sleep for 20 minutes. I still have occasional...

Hello everyone, I have not been diagnosed by a doctor with any "disorder" on the autism spectrum, but I do score pretty high on the scales I have taken. Also, people have thought I was weird all my life, made fun of me, shunned me, and it was always hard for me to understand why. Any large social si...
