Thanks hoegaandit, there is something in that business of not understanding the world and her place in it I think. The idea of her being polite to people because they are her elders is something she seems unable to fathom, and when I insist on it because it is about respect, she gets upset and cross... |

Agree with Zette on that . Sometimes if you hyper focus on something you miss the bigger picture. Can't you turn your attention to a hobby or something else to keep you happy, and still keep her in your peripheral vision so the pressure is off her? If you know what I'm saying. She wants her dad to b... |

In fairness momsparky, most people don't post any thought that comes into their head. I would say the majority of people who repsond do so based on their authentic response to what the op posts. Sometimes other information comes later on in the thread that can make one think again, after all, you ca... |

I think people like to feel they have something to offer those new to the forum, perhaps. I'm quite sure the op, as he has said, is not doing any diagnosing from the answers, merely gleaning what is helpful to him. I know when I first came here I trawled old posts, in particular those about girls in... |

You are obviously a very caring and loving father, and I wasn't offended at your saying bs re the stories, more surprised I suppose that you would not simply enjoy them for what they are, as this special imaginative time doesn't last for ever, so enjoy it while you can. Write some of those wonderful... |

Thanks for advice, all helpful to me. Good idea McNulty, subtitles, I never thought of that. Plus what you said about that being symptomatic of a larger issue, there is something in that, as she quite often does say things like this, that she personally is never consulted about a lot of things. Some... |

I can't help thinking you're over thinking this and looking out for problems to some extent, that you're seeing them when they're not there. Some of what you've mentioned are just things common to many 3 year olds. Her drawings sound completely appropriate to her age, her stories sound wonderfully i... |

So am currently staying with my parents with my 14 year old dd with aspergers. On holiday. Anyway, it's been mostly okay, they know she has aspergers but don't really understand it , and a lot of her behaviour comes over as rude. Some things have been hard, for example, she is a strict vegetarian, a... |

Just for the record, the word ret*d is completely unacceptable in countries other than America, it seems. It's just so politically incorrect, it falls off the scale. Just saying. |

Another one here who find that comment enlightening and helpful, Oddfiction. I have often said to my daughter 'why are you looking so grumpy/furious/ bad tempered and she she has said ' I'm not!', and been genuinely surprised. I so hope she can get a similar level of self awareness as you seem to de... |

Hi Hoegaandit I don't have much advice here but I always read your posts with interest. I'm also doing thr parent thing on my own, and one thing that might help (you need a biggish freezer space) is once a week or month cooking a lot of food and freezing into tupperwares or freezerbags for individua... |

Very disappointing for her, and she looks so gorgeous in her dress. You are right to kick up a fuss about it, these are not 4 year olds where are expected to arrive bang on time. Who arrives at 7 for a prom anyway? I imagine a lot of people are not happy about it. |

I really do think that's a very American thing-more so than in other countries.Well here I am assuming you're in the States. But you would not be remotely considered to be doing the wrong thing here in Ireland, you know your child best. I would be inclined to think medication a last resort, certainl... |

My daughter aged 13 has virtually her entire social life on a site called Runescape. A friend of mine showed it her about two years ago and she goes on it every night and calls those people her friends. Who am I to argue? It brings her happiness. There seem to be lots of boys on it and it might be s... |
