My daughter picks her nose and her skin compulsively. I don't really have any advice, but you aren't alone. |

What about one class and lunch at school? We did this last year- different issues than your son had at regular school, but it helped my daughter with the social aspect to some degree. We tried 2 classes- but she had too much trouble in one and they kept her in study hall during lunch, which totally ... |

After the many statements claiming that the first birth certificate was the only one, that there was no long form, I think the long form recently released is bunk. I also consider the fact that it really isn't difficult for someone in government to create the birth certificate and for it to pass all... |

Yes, how dare they express empathy for someone they know is traveling a harder road in life than they are. How dare they express dismay that such a young child must live his life in a world that doesn't understand him. How dare they clap and cheer in wonderment and excitement when they discover a bo... |

Something that we do is when my daughter says something rude, I just say "What you just said came across as rude. Were you intending to be rude?" She does answer honestly, so she'll say yes if she was being rude on purpose. If she says no, I explain why the statement she made was rude, and help her ... |

My daughter has done this since she was very small. At home she usually just goes in her room because that is her safe place here, but elsewhere she'll hide in closets and under tables. |

Ok- this is going to be a long post but I'll try to stop short of a novel :) My daughter (Sam, age 13, ASD/AS) has been invited to spend the summer with her Aunt traveling around the U.S. This is big, and we are both excited about it and have concerns. Bit of history- Aunt C. lives in Australia and ... |

I worry that she will still throw her arms up and shout "birdie" while running at the flock of birds standing in the grocery parking lot when she's 20. I still do stuff like that, and I'm in college, and 27. Seriously, it's not the end of the world. (Except for me, it's generally talking to the ran... |

I worry that she will still throw her arms up and shout "birdie" while running at the flock of birds standing in the grocery parking lot when she's 20. To be honest, that sounds charming to me! I was just using this as to illustrate my worry that she won't fit in. Whenever she does it I have to smi... |

I'm an inactive member of the LDS church. My parents, grandparents, and great grandparents are members so I was born in the Church. I don't have AS but certainly have AS traits and my daughter has AS/ASD. When I do go to church, I'm tired of the disapproving looks when people notice I still bring co... |

When my daughter was little she'd go to sleep early but wake early- 5am was normal. Even if I kept her awake late, she'd still wake at 5am but then she'd be a total pill all day. Now that she's a teen, she has trouble falling asleep and sometimes is awake into the wee hours of the morning. Nothing s... |

Thank you both! Sometimes I just get overwhelmed with everything, but then I just keep on going :) This year I tried putting Sammy in public school for science and orchestra. A lot has been going on lately for our family, and the stress level has been high. Concerns and worries occupy my mind, so I thought I'd share. Maybe I'm not as alone as it seems. My daughter is 13 yrs old and was diagnosed with high functioning autism last fall. I worry that she may never be truly ... |

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. Abilify was tested on 202 teens (ages 13-17) and 197 pre-teen/teens (ages 10-17). There were 2 trials, the one with teens lasted 6 weeks and the other for 4 weeks. The approval is specific to schizophrenia and bipolar 1. After typing the above, I did a bi... |

Thanks Bigjess- It seems we go for a week or two without any incidents and then it will happen. I have noticed a pattern of it happening when he is tired in the evenings. Also, it is true that if I scream at him (usually my first reaction if he is hitting or kicking me), it makes it worse. I like y... |
