hmm I've always been unsure on this one... I think I struggle to filter sounds properly as when I'm tired or stressed a busy place can be just massive sensory overload and I just need to get somewhere quiet quickly... it's weird though I also just really struggle processing information verbally - li...

thanks, and yeah whilst the weed idea wasn't necessarily a bad one (I believe some ADHDers end up using it to self medicate as it seems to help), it is illegal where I live (UK) and probably wouldn't be a long term solution anyways :/ and thanks for the suggestions... but whilst I have a hard time s...

so I haven't posted in here for a while but I just needed somewhere to anonymously rant, or vent, or some combination of the two... a vant I guess :/ I have an Asperger's diagnosis but I suspect comorbid ADHD (inattentive type)... I have massive concentration problems and I'm incredibly distractible...

maybe try explaining how a diagnosis could help to your GP, so they can see it's not just for curiosities sake (although I do think that's a perfectly valid reason for wanting a diagnosis). If you're a student at university it allows you to access 'disabled students allowance', which provides some f...

I'm not sure if this will be any use, but I was diagnosed at age 21-22 (I forget exactly when) in the UK (Sheffield autism center I think). I was referred to someone in the NHS to try and deal with depression and I guess some of the autistic symptoms came up in the discussion, I ended up getting sen...

55/60, response time 585.7, brain age 25.27 (although 2 errors I clicked the wrong button by mistake and on one I didn't respond fast enough). It's weird, I felt like I was mostly guessing but I don't have to run any stats to say I was better than chance. However I'm not sure if this is designed int...

I think there's a problem when you talk about memory in that it can mean very different things to different people, so when someone says they have a 'bad memory' it can be hard to actually know what they mean. The same is true when asking if poor memory is linked to autism, to give a good answer you...

Probably more to do with your diet than autism. Check out Phosphatidylserine.

If the memory problems were due to diet they wouldn't have higher prevalence in autism, as autistic individuals in general won't have different diets to the wider population.

Up until I was 15 or so I thought hugging could be a one-way transaction (i.e. you could be hugged and that was it), so whenever someone hugged me I would just keep my arms at my sides. I only realised this was wrong when there was a trend of hugging in my high school and somehow it became a bit of ...

The aspies that I know with good episodic memmories are visual thinkers. I am a visual thinker but I do not have a detailed photographic memmory like some. If I can't visualize it, I will not understand it, nor will I have any chance of remembering it. I do not have a strong working memmory either....

You should be able to access it here . It's probably not the most entertaining read but it does reference quite a few papers if anyone wants to look into it further (of course accessing the papers could be quite difficult for anyone not in university/college). I should mention that I'm not an expert...

I actually wrote an essay about the memory profile in ASDs (as part of my psychology degree). From what I could gather both episodic and working memory deficits are fairly common in autism. Episodic memory being memory for past events, and working memory being memory for information currently in use...

My sensitivity generally depends on how tired/stressed I am. On a late evening in the library I start to hear everyone's conversations from all 4 floors, whilst they're all close approximations of whispering adding it all up becomes quite loud/frustrating. I'd get some noise-cancelling headphones bu...

scored 40, although they really need to come up with a test that isn't just asking about the traits of aspergers/autism. As long as you know the general diagnosis I'm sure you could fake the test fairly easily (it would be interesting to get some NTs to try and answer as if they had AS, bet they'd m...

Does he have the same issues with coursework? It's possible it could be partially due to the environment, either due to distractions (e.g. hearing everyone writing at once if he has any auditory issues) or perhaps just how unusual the situation is (personally I often get more nervous about the exam ...
