All of this, in turn, makes me second guess myself; what if I don't have AS, and I'm just a failure at being human? Maybe I'm just lazy?. This is exactly the thought that goes though my head sometimes. I've known about Asperger's for quite a while, actually, but only in vague terms. It wasn't until... |

There are a few things here. One you don't need their approval but obviously it is nice. You have to think what are the reasons for being diagnosed for you. Two maybe there are some indicators that they may have traits or maybe they just don't want there to be anything wrong with you. I am my Mum's... |

One thing I should mention, my mom was a teacher's assistant for many years. I don't know if she knows anything about the autistic spectrum, but she is a proponent of getting help for kids with ADD or ADHD. My aunt and uncle were rather opposed to my cousin's son getting help for his disruptive clas... |

Your parents could be on the spectrum too and that would explain why they are in denial. Or they could just be projecting so they don't see you as any different because of themselves. I've wondered this, actually. My grandma on my mom's side has a number of odd traits, and though I never knew my gr... |

I worry all the time that I might come across as creepy. I don't remember having ever been told that I'm creepy, though. I worry that I might do a lot of things that seem "suspicious," because I look at people and then look away, or sometimes wait for people to leave an area before going through mys... |

I'm afraid of seeking a diagnosis because of my parents, really. I don't live with them, but I am very close with them, and pretty much always let them know when I'm doing something big. Whenever I try to tell my parents that I'm not normal, their knee-jerk reaction is "Oh that's silly," or "There's... |

I live on my own, but visit my parents very often. Sometimes I feel a bit too bound to their expectations (or what I assume to be their expectations... this can be a problem, because I don't really know what they expect of me in a lot of ways, and I'm afraid to ask). I look at everyone else and the ... |

I don't have a diagnosis, so I don't know if my love of video games classifies as a "special interest" or not. It's been my main interest that has dominated my thoughts almost my whole life. It sounds like most people define "special interests" as more unusual interests (like, things that to someone... |

I absolutely know that feeling of wishing someone were there to "ground" you. When someone else is around, I feel like the things I struggle with while being alone are out of sight and out of mind. |

I have a very selective memory. I remember details that most people would never care about, but miss details that others would consider important. I've only ever really had one *big* interest (video games), and it has never changed my whole life, so I haven't forgotten much about my history with tha... |

I'm not afraid of being alone in the sense that I feel scared, but I do feel sad about being alone. I like people that I have something in common with, and I desire that social connection. On the other hand, I actively assume that every other person is someone I can't relate to, and fear a social in... |

I think that for someone on the "spectrum" the issue is caused by not understanding how your boss and co-workers think of you and your role in the company. You say you have anxiety that you are not keeping up with the workload, but everybody says you're doing a great job, keep up the good work! So ... |

I know procrastination is a trait anyone can have. I don't have a diagnosis myself, but I've been wondering if aspies are more inclined to procrastination, or if it affects them differently than it does other people. My mom recently reminisced about what a chore it was to get me to do my homework wh... |

I'd consider video games to be my "special interest," but I'm actually not all that good at them. I can play them a lot better than people who aren't really gamers, because I "understand" games, but compared to other gamers, I'm not very good. I get through games by persistence and obsession moreso ... |

I was posting here at Wrong Planet maybe about a year ago? I really enjoyed it here, and I'm not really sure why I stopped coming. I guess I just got occupied with other things and felt pretty comfortable with things. Nothing much has changed lately, but for some random reason I've been feeling a bi... |

I see what you're getting at. My philosophy throughout high school and college was, "Why waste my time, money, and emotional energy on someone who I probably won't marry?" I figured dating was stupid until you were of proper marriage age. In a way, it is, but I've come to the recent revelation that,... |
