He will always justify his abusive behaviour because people (ie: me) have abused him. Surely that is a bl**dy good reason for him to LEARN from his situation and break the cycle! Does he want his kids to be abusive to their future partners, and his grandkids...? It really sounds to me like you need...

I would look into what types of alarms a deaf person might have... I realise they might have an audible alarm to alert anyone else on the premisis too, but I believe there are ones available with flashing lights (though you'd have to have one in every room)? I don't know if the ones with the lights ...

Trying to save the world! It's an SI that I've had since I was tiny and obsessed with nature, living things and life in general. Now that I'm older, I'm able to actually DO something about it. I'm trying to downsize, green my home, work out if it's practical / possible to get microgeneration working...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: When do jokes about disability stop being funny?

I find jokes offensive if they trivialise the reality of what the joke is about. This can be a physical / mental / neurological disorder or disability, just as easily as it can be about rape, race, gender, etc., etc.,. For me it's easier to talk about "jokes" as I find it easier to put into context,...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Learn to fit in or just be myself?

I've always just been myself and if have the view that, if people can't handle it, that's their problem, not mine, and if they don't want to take the time to get to know me, then they're not worth my time either! I'd say, be yourself, but learn how to try to control the highs and lows (eg. for a job...

You should try designing your own logo instead of painting over a pre-existing logo in MS Paint.

Especially when there are copywrite issues involved and you could get sued!

The national cost of bringing a child (any child - with/without disabilities!) into the world, paying for it's health care, food production, education, etc., cost the state an awful lot more than a condom... Prevent national security risks! Buy a condom now!! ! Seriously - what? To me the whole lot ...

When I was younger I was a night owl. I would stay up all hours reading (when little), or going out with my friend (when older). I struggled getting up for school/work, but once there, was OK. These days, I'm a "sunlight" person. In the winter I struggle getting up before the sun and start getting t...

Sorry to go a little off topic but, what is it with AS girls and leggings???? Not too off-topic - again, it could be a sensory issue - if they prefer the feel of something close to their skin and tight rather than fabrics swishing/moving against their legs and skin. Personally, I tend to like the s...

I'm in a position where if they're playing with numbers with one thing and not clarifying it, then I find it hard to take anything they say seriously: "Government data show the number of closely spaced births — where babies are less than two years apart — is rising, from 11 percent of all births in ...

I've just found out that "Autistica" are the UK section of Autism Speaks. One of our offices promoted World Autism Awareness Day (2 April) this year and gave their money to Autistica. I'd never heard of them and when I looked it up they're part of Autism Speaks. I'm hoping to have a word with them ...

Hi Nikki I'm not sure if you've spotted the "Set of scientific tests related to Autism Spectrum Disorders" post that's stickied at the start of the General Autism Discussion forum (http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt113459.html) - it might help with looking at the AS side of things. As for potential le...

I'd consider myself as bi-sexual - I am female, and happily living with a male, but through my life I'm attracted to people. It doesn't matter what gender they are, just as it doesn't matter how tall / short they are, what colour their skin/hair/eyes are, what religion they have (if any), if they li...

The other opinion could be if you feel you look like you're about to cry, some of it could be concern, but without the nerve to ask "are you ok" (or because asking a total stranger is crossing some of the social norms that NTs worry about)... It sounds like the bus-driver might have similar anxiety ...
