When it was time for my son to brush his teeth, we got him a musical disney toothbrush that played a tune when it was time to finish. I also let him watch me cleaning mine and then asked him to copy and seemed to do the trick. As for the dentist, we have got a really understanding dentist and told h...

I used to let my son watch something that he really liked, with songs so that we could sing and take his mind off it and that seemed to work. Hope you sort it out :)

I know exactly how you feel. We were in our town one day. It was at the weekend and really busy. Our 9yr old aspie wanted to go somewhere and we said in a minute, but he wanted to go immediately and had a meltdown and decided to run off. My husband went running after him, but couldn't see him anywhe...

aspiesmom1 - no problem. I never really thought about which school he'd be going to, just took it for granted that he was going to the same as nearly all the other children go to. We have now found out that they don't cater a lot for special needs children and the other smaller school is brilliant. ...

aspiesmom1 - He doesn't go to high school until September 2007, but we need to know in June this year to make sure that all is being done at the school he's going to. We have a group called the Autism Outreach Team here and they make quite a few visits to the school and then take the child on visits...

I had a meeting with my 9 year old aspie sons school today and was told that I have to start thinking about which high school I want him to go to because he has his review in June and they need to know then because of getting things ready for him next year. One of the choices is a smaller school and...

Aspiesmom1 - thank you very much for your help. It really helps to know that people are going through the same thing. We were in town once and he had a meltdown and people were staring. His dad was with him and I was with my other son and this old lady said, to no one in particular, that he would do...

I have a 9 year old aspie son. We have not long told him about his problem, but unfortunately he doesn't understand it. He had one of his (tantrums) as we call them and he said I had a aspergers moment. We have tried to explain that it's something he has all the time, but he just couldn't understand...

I was always told my son was a 'typical' boy. At the age of 4 he went to school and was excluded and was told that he wasn't ready for school. He went to another school and the headteacher knew that he was autistic, but because I didn't have a diagnosis, she couldn't help me. To cut a long story sho...

CelticGoddess - no problem. I know how you feel about moving him to another school, but schooling is the most important thing and getting it right is top priority. I'm sure that if you get him into the school you want he will come on loads and it really helps. Hope it goes your way :)

Somebody I used to work with kept asking for funny things that my son had taken the wrong way because she is looking into doing a book, with the heading 'say what you mean, mean what you say'. I didn't think about it until she asked me about it. Another one he did that was funny, I said I was runnin...

We had quite a few problems with schools and he eventually went to a special needs school for a few years. That was the best thing because it really made him settle down. He is now integrated in a mainstream school and loves it. We have problems when they do topics for a week or so that are not the ...

I'm glad to hear that you also loved countries. He gets really upset because asks me questions about flags and all the different countries and I don't know anything. Even if I read up on them, I don't know the answers to his questions. He loves looking up information on the net about them 8O

Hi. I've got a 9 y.o aspie son, who was diagnosed a couple of years ago. He is really into maps, flags, anything to do with countries and computers. We had a really tough time getting him into school, but is doing really well now. We have a younger son and it's really hard trying to keep them both h...
