Callista, I'm not really sure about his short term memory for the example that you gave as I don't think I give him those types of responsibilities. |

As always, the responses on here are very helpful. Please forgive me for neglecting some vital facts. My son is 6 and in first grade. Also, he has not been officially diagnosed with hyperlexia or ASD, however many of his behaviors are indicative as such so for the sake of helping him succeed, I'm lo... |

I'm posting this instead of the parenting section because I'd like to get feedback from the wider WP community. My son taught himself to read before I had any clue about his abilities. He has above average reading and spelling skills. However, he is struggling in Math. When I posted about this in th... |

No, he isn't diagnosed and doesn't have an IEP. He's in a private school. |

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of wonderful insight I get from posting on this board. Thank you all so much. As for the seating situation, honestly it never even occurred to me until posting just how "big of a deal" this could be for my son. Reading the responses, I got flashbacks to my own ... |

It's been awhile since I've posted here. My son was previously homeschooled and now he's in school. With cautious optimism, we thought that school would be helpful for him. A little history on the school situation. He is hyperlexic (taught himself to read) and reads on a very high grade level (not s... |

My son has been a teenager since he was in the first grade. He is a cross between a stubborn/know everything teenager and a grumpy old man that growls at anyone that does anything that bothers him. He has actually gotten somewhat better with age and it has helped that we can laugh about it now and ... |

I posted before about problems with my ds and my dh and I showing affection to each other. Things were getting better for awhile. Now, things are going downhill and he's getting increasingly more violent. Just today, dh just made a mention of kissing me. I was standing on the stairs holding a laundr... |

I watch it. And I approve. When I watch, I have to have my chocolate milk. OH, and my Mum saw an episode...and she said "that is you!" LOL   I don't usually watch the show, but I watched this episode and I totally saw my son right there. I yelled out to the screen, "That's my baby!" Tha... |

Thanks for all the replies. I wish I knew what the trigger was. I can't seem to figure it out. The other part is that this is just not like him. He was never violent. He would get worked up about stuff, but we could usually figure out what the root cause was. This one just has a baffled. Keeping a d... |

Don't take away his computer unless you want a big fallout between the two of you. I also reccomend that you ask him what it is that makes him so angry. He isn't getting angry for no apparent reason, like the experts say that autistic people do. I think some people with AS can identify the why and ... |

Very interesting explanation Tracker. My son can't stand when I 'recite' along with our tape in the car. I swear I'm not loud at all (basically reciting to myself), but he goes absolutely ballistic kicking my seat from behind and screaming. I just stopped doing it without thinking until now. He neve... |

My point is that Aspergers IS on the Autism Spectrum, as per the DSM, and the new DSM looks like it may well erase the line between AS and HFA even more. For a neurologist to be telling parents he doesn't think AS is autism, strikes me as somewhat irresponsible in terms of confusing and misleading ... |

Thank you all for your advice and input. I've reread your postings to try my best to absorb it all. As for the pragmatic speech issue, the crazy thing is that they're ONLY going by me telling them about it as opposed to the ADOS results. To my knowledge, his pragmatics weren't tested. The issues tha... |

The title says it all. I am full of a mixture of emotions now. I have been preparing for these results for months, but honestly don't think I prepared myself for how I'd feel for the no answer. The tester thought I'd be relieved that there's no ASD. I think I'm more frustrated now. On the one hand, ... |

No, wiping is not the problem, because I still do it for him. Every time his behind is wiped clean. There is fresh, moist stool there when the next incident happens. |
