Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Does anyone remember their first day in kindergarden?

Yes I remember. I freaked out and didn't want to stay. I didn't get on with the other kids but was obsessed with the "stickle bricks" and all I wanted to do was build with them. I hated the other kids being around because they would just like to knock bricks down. They all seemed loud and unpredicta...

But no. I don't see why two people on the spectrum would not be able to converse by phone. I have many aspie friends and we often talk on the phone. I certainly see why. I could never have a "conversation" on the phone like you described. I just can't do it and most of the Aspies I know have ...

Having a troublesome "friend" is worse than having no friend. This friend of yours just doesn't seem like a very nice person - unless they are just having a 'bad day'. What you said did not warrant her nasty replies, IMO. I think she is the one who should apologize. Find more understanding and less ...

I didn't get on with kids in pre-school and school but that was because I didn't understand or like other kids rather than them bullying me as such. Although, a couple of teachers in school from about age six did bully me because they didn't understand why I was different and didn't like it. The bul...

Maybe I'm not. But I manage to irritate people on this forum. And it's filled with people that implicitly understand there own capacity to irritate. I think we might be quite similar in this regard. It's no exaggeration to say that I have no friends. As in zero. And this one, too. I was first alert...

It just shows how much the "official" diagnostic process is a lottery and that you have to have done the research YOURSELF to know if you have AS before you look for a diagnosis. Then you keep going until you get someone with enough experience and insight to see the truth, even if that takes seeing ...

I think we should have tiny little button badges. Maybe just a colour...like in the Invisibles cartoon. :) Or small ones with a little 'WP' or an 'AS', would be very discreet.

How about something more discreet and usable in more than just a club...and one that doesn't look like we're attempting to mimic hip-hop artists and rappers.

I remember such things from years ago all the time, they just pop into my mind, and when I do I often swear out loud (as in the thread title) or just audibly groan because I feel bad/embarrassed about it. Thankfully this usually happens when no one else is around.

The need to form a firm belief one way or another when the evidence simply doesn't support one conclusion over another and then to respond to that belief as if "fact". The need to predict things as if it's factual before the outcome is known and then say endlessly "I knew it! See! I said that would ...

When considering which paradigm-challenging idea I should take seriously, I consider the source. If somebody with a New Age blog and a lot of links selling crystals says something paradigm-challenging, I'm not inclined to take it seriously. If Stephen Hawking says it, I am.....I am open to consider...

Indigo children are described via an entirely different paradigm than psychiatric disorders. I agree, which is why I said "I know, "it's not the same". But the attitudes displayed are essentially the same and both derive from seeing something as absurd because our belief system does not allow for i...

I have no belief in Indigo Children either way. But It's fascinating to note that until fairly recently AS was not known to exist, and even today there are still those who dismiss AS as a fabrication and an illegitimate excuse for 'strange', 'selfish' or 'unsociable' behaviour. There are certain par...

Malcolm, don't let him wind you up. LOL. I suspect we were both winding each other up. But we are now happily chattering about how weird and wonderful the Universe is on another thread, so there's no harm done. I suspect we both enjoy a vigorous debate. :) But it would be nice if this thread lead t...
