This thread just reminded me to take my melatonin tablet (just started taking them this week). I'm hoping they will get me back into a "normal" sleep pattern. Lately I've been going to sleep around 5am and waking between 1pm and 3pm. Luckily I don't have a job to get up for these days or I'd be scre...

It used to be pretty much everyday, until I went on anti-depressants. Now it's a VERY rare thought.

Hmmm. The earliest special interests that I can remember are probably maps and houseplans, both of which I'm still obsessed with. I also remember being quite obsessed with the pleats on my school uniform and the rubber soles on my school shoes. Still gives me a thrill thinking about them. Weird, I k...

I also really hate it whenever I'm asked my age, because I know the response is going to be "no, you're not!" I guess people don't understand how annoying and upsetting that reaction can be.

I used to drink a lot. In fact, it got to the point where I needed to have a couple of shots of vodka or whiskey before leaving the house (whether I was going to uni, work, or out with friends), because the thought of having to deal with other people while sober freaked me out. Nowadays, I don't go ...

What don't I hate about Asperger's? Maybe if I'd known about it earlier in my life, I could've got some help with it. Instead I just had to try to get through life on my own, wondering why things that seemed so easy for other people (dating, learning to drive, holding down a job, living on my own, e...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Why do people on the spectrum look young for their age?

I'm 39 and I look maybe 25. I hate it, although if I could be bothered wearing makeup, it would probably help a little. :?

Yes. I fully understand what the OP is saying. I've always felt like that. Mind you, I've always looked and sounded younger than I am, so that doesn't help. I'm the oldest child in my family, but I'm the only one still living at home, and who has never been in a relationship. I sometimes have to "fi...

I thought I'd be really bad at this. However, if I'm reading this correctly, I was very accurate but quite slow (although I did get faster with each round). Flexibility Test: Accuracy: 96th percentile (192 of 192) Speed: 14th percentile (1149ms) ETA: Thanks for the link - I'm really bored right now,...

Fluoxetine (Prozac) for depression. I also find it helps my OCD somewhat.

I don't drive. I have my learner's license and have driven (very occasionally) in the past, but I get anxious just thinking about driving. It really sucks, as I can't be as independent as I'd like to be.

I hate that some of the people out there who really aren't on the spectrum but claiming to be probably have created that expectation by using it as an excuse to act that way. Like, "I don't give a sh** about anything but getting what I want - I must have Asperger's!" :-( Like the girl on Glee. Her ...

A couple of reactions I've had are "no, you're not" and "you don't act like someone else I know who is autistic". I'd really like to tell more people so that they'd know why I behave like I do and then perhaps they could be a little more understanding and tolerant. But I don't know if I can take tho...

Yep, been doing this all my life. Usually a TV or movie character who had the sort of life I wish I had. I'd talk and dress like them, and become interested in whatever their hobbies and/or professions were. I'm not currently imitating anyone, but I still don't have a sense of who I really am. I've ...

I was put on Citalopram a few years ago. It made me sleepy and spaced out for the first week or so, but then things settled down. My only side effect was brain shivers. Unfortunately, after a couple of years, I stupidly decided that I no longer needed medication. I stopped taking them and became sui...

I tend to do this quite often as well. Sometimes I even have deep, philosophical conversations with myself. And yet, when I'm with others, it can be hard to say the right words in order to convey what I mean. I'm not shy so this really annoys me. I also repeat conversations later in my mind, thinkin...
