According to the Wikipedia article "Refractory Period" increased oxytocin during the refractory period (the cooling off period after an orgasm) is chiefly responsible for men not being able to get another erection or orgasm right away. Autism is thought to be associated with reduced oxytocin so this... |

Some people consider "therapy" to be tantamount to a "cure". But think of this way. If everyone were autistic then a great deal of therapies such as applied behavioral therapy wouldn't be called "Therapy" they would be called "education" and would probably be a great deal more advanced than they are... |

More specifically I want to know the clothes to wear, music to listen to, ways of talking and how it relates to the ways people will see my personality. I'm not going to say exactly what I'm trying to portray here so I'd need to hear about not just what do people like because good social skills, opt... |

I thought about social construct theory and realized that "self" and the associated concepts were just taught to me by society. My true "self" is just me as a body, as a being of matter and energy that interacts with its environment. Anything more than that is just extra stuff and quite frankly in t... |

We live in a describable world. A world that is at its base a concrete world of matter and energy so why can't people just describe the precise things that I need to do to do well socially. JUST TELL ME! Don't make me guess. Just give me all the rules. And then tell me the rules for how to parse out... |

German has a much lower rate of recorded autism compared to the rest of the world. My theory is that the same biology is not manifesting symptoms as often or is manifesting only at higher biological threshholds due to differences in culture. If you never have problems in social relationships then yo... |

Wouldn't that be just as much a sign of autism, though? The test would still be a valid indicator, even if the reason for the outcome was lack of attention or lack of understanding. Yes. But the question has implications for the nature of autism. What if NTs have some sort of innate people-preferen... |

How do psychologists for example in the Sally and Anne Test control for lack of interest or rather how do they guarantee the child will be interested? I notice in my daily life my abilities on things are unstable, my ability to do something well or not will depend on whether I really get into or not... |

Sure you could be president. Thomas Jefferson had Asperger's. JFK and probably Bill Clinton had ADD. Bush probably had dyslexia. But I wouldn't spotlight it like you're doing. Be honest about it if it comes up, you could even tie it into highlighting support for better educational support services f... |

No, social difficulties aren't due to sensory processing issues. They're separate problems. No relation at all? But then why do they come together? In my experience I would often mistake forms of physiological arousal or even being tired from my senses for physiological arousal for emotions and the... |

I don't show emotion easily and I'm told I have an expressionless face (and cold eyes). People think I'm unfeeling and unfriendly, and they say I look scary as they can't read me. Me too. But another thing. when I'm upset I typically do NOT want people to read my expression. That usually leads to q... |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misattribution_of_arousal There is a phenomenon called "misattribution of arousal" where a person is physiologically aroused for other reasons and then misattributes the response to emotional reasons that aren't actually the reason for the arousal. In a study they found ... |

What if they find a way to only get rid of the problems without affecting any associated strengths?
I don't see a problem with that at all. |

Social skills are kind of like a compass that help you navigate outside of familiar situations and people. If you have them you can function in new situations without getting stressed. Success in these situations can lead to good things happening for you. A currrency more valuable than money. You c... |

I feel happy a lot. It's not "elusive" or rare to experience. What people mean by "striving for" or "pursuing" happiness is bigger moments of happiness, going for things that stand out in one's mind as things that would make oneself very happy. Since emotions aren't visible or otherwise easily sense... |
