As a kid I could not even read the word "vomit," "puke" or "throw up" in a BOOK without having a panic attack. Kids could terrify me by pretending to puke or saying the words related to vomit, and they loved to do it. I remember it being triggered by a kid at school vomiting in class, and just being... |

BTW, I agree that if you don't want to deal with someone with AS don't marry them!! ! And if you find out later into the marriage that they have it, well, you signed up "for better or worse!" Would you marry someone with severe celiac syndrome, and get mad because they can't go out to restaurants wi... |

Geesh... so much gloom and doom, everywhere you look at reports of marriages between Aspies/NT's! What about the good parts? The fact that even though we're obsessed and sometimes locked into our own minds/agendas, we can be pretty damn interesting when we learn to communicate in a way that engages ... |

My 8-year old AS daughter is obsessed... I mean obsessed with anime, especially Studio Ghibli movies... and I never thought about the exaggerated facial expressions thing. She also is obsessed with Sponge Bob and Archie comics, which both have them as well. She copies anime characters, draws comics,... |

as a bi AS mom of an AS 8-year-old daughter, I have to say (and I'm engaged to a woman)... it still stumps me. She's at the age where you can't just be vague all the time about gender. My fiance always wants to use both pronouns, and I prefer to be vague, partly because DD's father is very homophobi... |

Musicman, I had a similar thing happen to me... a friend I met online whom I thought was my soulmate (as a friend... he is gay and I've been bi all my life but am mostly into women as I get older) abandoned me completely in the most impersonal way. I actually had moved to another state, in part to b... |

Ediself, I so feel your pain!! ! It is hard to have an AS child and be AS yourself, even though sometimes it has its benefits... I do bond with my daughter over a lot of the same obsessions like maps and nutrition, but she has ADHD and I don't, and her energy level EXHAUSTS me. I am also a single wo... |

Wow, the topic of this post really caught my attention... even though it was about pumpkin guts, my 7yo Aspie daughter has major Halloween issues of another sort! She is TERRIFIED of anything even remotely halloween-ish! I mean, even little kiddie songs on Nick Jr about Halloween, or carnival haunte... |

I am really glad to hear this discussion because I have wondered the same thing. My daughter is 7 and was diagnosed two years ago by the school district neurologist. However, her IEP focuses mainly on her ADHD which they felt was more of an issue. I actually am meeting with them this week to discuss... |
