My 12 yr old has the very same trouble staying in one spot long enough to finish a page or two of math problems. What I know he can intellectually finish in 20 minutes takes him 2 hrs of on again/ off again battling distractions. Having 3 younger siblings (a 4 yr old sister and 2 Aspie brothers) mak...

Wow! I admire your gusto! I have many times felt the need to bring a lightsber to school meetings to defend my children! I have been battling the school all year with my 11 yr old son, and they finally set his IEP for June 1st! He goes to middle school in the fall so I think any effort they have mad...

Oh how familiar this all is! my 11 yr old, who is officially dx'd Aspie, slept so well as a baby (8pm-8am!) until his brother (now 8 ) was born. Neither have slept since. We now have 2 more kids (ages 6 & 3) and the older two cause a battle every night. We've had a consistant routine for years, ...

My 11 yr old that was just dx'd Aspie was also told he has muscle weakness, but it was listed as a seperate issue. very interesting. He can also bend his fingers back until they touch his wrists!! ! And all sorts of other freaky flexibility things. I myself have always been more flexible that normal...

The words "I love you" have never meant much to me. My poor husband can't figure out why I don't say it all the time and expects me to reply when he does. But they are just words. Anyone can say them, but it doesn't make them true. I found that for me if I write how I feel it has more meaning. When ...

All three of my boys fight when it comes to showering, even at home. My oldest, 11, has finally stopped screaming all the way through it but won't wash his own hair for fear he'll get soap in his eyes. Last week his entire fifth grade went to camp for a week as part of a school program they've been ...

May I suggest a book that has helped me greatly with the recent diagnosis of my 11 yr old son. The Everything Parent's Guide to Children with Asperger's Syndrome by William Stillman I know that you are an adult and some things may not apply but there are so many analogies and clear explanations that...

My husband was diagnosed ADHD a month before my son was diagnosed Aspie. My son had been misdiagnosed ADHD 6 mo earlier and the meds only made my son have more breakdowns and even a hallucinating anxiety attack where he barracaded himself in his room and thought we were all giant bugs. As soon as th...

My oldest (1yrs old) was just diagnosed as Aspie a month ago, but his speech teacher suggested it last fall. Last summer his pediatrician diagnosed him as ADHD, something I and all of his teachers have always resisted becuase it didn't feel right. Aspie fits him perfectly! But he also has tremors an...

Wow, it's not just me!! I have had "feelings" for as long as I can remember. I've known when my grandparents died, before my parents did. I freaked out my driver's ed. teacher because I knew something really awful had happened and I needed to get home, and when I finally finished the clas and got ho...

My husband just got out of the Navy after 11 yrs. We have just figured out (mostly on our own) that all three of our boys (we also have a 2yr old daughter) are likely Aspies. I spent 10 yrs trying to figure out what was going on with my oldest and they just kept giving him different drugs that messe...

He'll be at a regular public school, so not much one on one there, but he doesn't have to ride the bus. He could walk but he tires quickly and he doesn't pay enough attention at intersections that I trust him to cross two busy streets. I've always walked with him or driven him and will probably cont...

Well put! Thank you so much for your advice! I agree, we all have good days and bad days, and what I need to do is help him focus on the glass being half full, and moving through those bad times with out focusing too much attention on them. I am so glad I posted here! You have all been a great help!...

Thank you! that was a good reminder... While jr high really stunk for me, I was able to blend in more during high school. I'm beginning to think I have more Aspie qualities than I had realized :D As long as he know he can talk to me and my husband about what he's feeling, I think we'll be okay.

My 11 yr old was just diagnosed aspie with sensory integration trouble. I had no idea until reading this post that they were connected and not 2 seperate issues. I've known of the sensory overload since he was 2 or 3 (can't go to WalMart!), but last fall he woke up at 5am very upset. When he saw his...
