Throwing cans of pop at boys....You should be in jail. That is an assault. Period. They could have been seriously injured. You must be young. Keep it up and after a few trips to jail, you might learn to contain yourself. This is true. Autism does not give you right to hurt people. It is frustrating... |

I'm also sorry to hear that it doesn't go as smoothly as it 'should' when you use TTY. Another example of how dynamics are in place to speed the device into obsolescence Has absolutely nothing to do with speeding devices into obsolescence. It is not a conspiracy to make people stop using the relay ... |

It is hardly accurate to suggest that those with a phone 'issue' but who are not deaf don't 'need' such a service as the TTY. Further, citing expenses (that are actually considerably lower than before) as justification for denying others such a service is more a mimicking of 'unfriendly' bureaucrac... |

A great solution for those with phone issues is to use a TDD The relay system is an okay, but not great, solution for those who cannot speak or cannot hear. But to suggest it for those who just do not like talking on the phone, that is a really bad idea. For a number of reasons. This service costs ... |

There are supposedly many people (adults) with aspergers in Seattle. One of the groups I was told about: http://www.meetup.com/Squarepegs/
I have never been, but I've been told that it is supposedly a very good group of people. |

I am a believer in neuroplasticity. I think the mental effort required to organize one's wishes into something communicable can actually rewire the brain. Going from not knowing why the terrible feeling is there and flailing around to knowing the feeling can be removed by water and flailing towards... |

It is helpful, to avoid being treated as either a criminal or as mentally ill. On the back I list both names I go by, where I live, and the name and phone number of the person I live with. |

Can someone with autism, who can't speak, learn to speak as an adult? It is not quite impossible, but exceedingly unlikely. Unless the person was not speaking for reasons other than nonverbal autism, that is. For autistic nonverbal adults, the same problems are present that inhibited speech when th... |

Yes, what Dae said. In far more words than I could normally handle. Written English is not the same language as spoken English, similar in primarily superficial ways. Those who are verbal often alter written English to suit spoken English rules, especially in informal contexts. Whether it is their i... |

People have so very much to learn. And when I say people, I include myself, because I'm sure I'm guilty of making sweeping generalizations all the time. But is it ever annoying when you're on the receiving end of such generalizations. It doesn't bother me, but it does happen at least 90% of the tim... |

First of all, this list's original purpose is for my friends and family who don't know what to do with me when I type. I just thought it might, in parts, be useful to people here, too. No one's going to take it word-for-word, and if you'd like people to communicate with YOU a certain way, then feel... |

11. Don't talk around, over, under, through... you get the idea... me. I'm here, I can't talk. Don't direct questions to whomever I'm with, and please don't engage my mom or staff in extended conversation and just leave me out to dry. If you slow down and give me a sec, I can join in, too. I'm not talking about selective mutism or going non-verbal during meltdowns, I am talking about actually, being non-verbal. If so, what's it like? I have never actually met a non-verbal autistic person who would have the ability to write down what is is like for them, and I am curious to know what ... |

Teenagers can be overbearing when they exercise authority. That's just the fact of the matter. I doubt it's that simple. It could be that they, like my older brother, had seen their sibling be harmed by most interactions. Having no speech, written, or gestural communication, I had no way to protect... |
