I know where you're coming from, and my feeling also is that Baron-Cohen has some things right (or close to right) and some things wrong. For example, I think there's a very big difference between a Theory of Mind impairment and a lack of empathy. For example I've always been the one who gets most u... |

Not a nice message he sent. You did the right thing by ditching him, unless it was just a one-off lapse which I guess could happen to a horny teenage guy. Friends need to be supportive and show their friends respect; they shouldn't learn about a person's weaknesses and then try to take advantage. I ... |

Good question. I recently posted about trying to be more productive but didn't get many replies.
I hear LifeCoaches can be useful for this kind of thing if you can afford them (I can't). |

Preferred computing, physics, and math in high school. Everybody expected me to study computing, but I changed my mind at the last minute for multiple different reasons.
Ended up doing a PhD in molecular biology. Guess you could say I like science |

Only if he made politics his special interest and stuck with it for a few years. Then I'm sure he'd make a great president |

Does anybody with AS have a particular time management/project management/productivity method that works for them? I've been looking at the Pomodoro technique, and recently the GTD method. I also have multiple Ipad apps (e.g. Priority Matrix, To Do), but have yet to settle for one or find a techniqu... |

See this (from last week's news). Notice they talk about how the woman has damaged amygdala (i.e. the opposite of autism according to the IWT).

According to the Intense World Theory of autism, hyperactivity of the amygdala results in hyper-fear which is associated with social withdrawal.
Lack of fear is associated with hypo-active or absent amygdala (opposite of autism). |

Well, I've been through phases identical to what you just described. I'd say it resembles anti-social but it's more about having a great affection for special interests to the exclusion of other activities. I think truly anti-social people dislike and are aversive towards being social, whereas AS pe... |

I was, still am to some extent (much less than previously), and I'm constantly working on it. It's pretty exhausting trying to fix this and to try to relate to others in a 'proper' way, and I agree that it's related to theory of mind impairment. I suspect the self-centeredness we're talking about di... |

Perhaps become a part of a community where you can get feedback and encouragement (like deviantart)? Or create a blog? Or make a career out of it somehow? T-shirt designs, logo illustration, etc. etc. In other words try getting your art out there where others can enjoy it and give you positive feedb... |

Interesting question. There are multiple neurological differences between autistic people and NT people; the amygdala in particular is reportedly different in autistic people in terms of its activity and the way it communicates with other regions of the brain. Whether a concussion or head injury can... |
