My favorite anecdote with regard to the absurdity of arguing about it is the atheist who picked up an orrery from the desk of a theist and asked "Who made this?", to which the theist replied, "Nobody.". LOL - that cracks me up every time. What always strikes me about this whole a...

But as far as being the person I am... I find it hard to be anyone else. It feels like lying. It feels like I'm not even there at all if I'm not being me. What's the point of giving voice and presence to someone that doesn't exist? And why would one even want approval - or attention or company or w...

Also, with regard to emotions, I can "feel" a distinct difference between expressed emotion and actual emotion. And I have confirmed this with NTs I know and who just accept it as "normal". They fake and/or exaggerate their emotions a LOT. It's one of the things that makes intera...

It just occurred to me that not recognizing facial expressions and not making eye contact, for me, are basically the same thing. I don't even recognize people I know when I see them outside the usual environment, how could I possibly ascertain mood from facial expressions with so little experience i...

Maybe for...two minutes. Then I'm just like, "screw it". I don't fake anymore. I'm autistic. I live in this world, just like everybody else. If somebody doesn't like it, they can take it up with God or rewrite the laws of physics or whatever. Just like gay people say - "We're queer, w...

Something else you will find useful in understanding is the thing about "obvious stuff". There are three kinds of obvious things. 1) Things that are only obvious to him, that you and others haven't noticed. 2) Things that are obvious to everyone. 3) Things that are obvious to everyone but ...

I wasn't diagnosed until I was 40 years old. I'm super glad I did it. For me, it was a huge relief--finally, I started to make sense to myself. As I learned more about AS, it gave me some perspective on my life. I didn't get a diagnosis in order to get into a special school or to get accommodations...

I suppose it's down to the individual. Personally, I take no offence to it. Why should I? For me, I didn't self diagnose because it wouldn't have felt right for me, and I didn't know there was such a thing as self diagnosis. I did suspect but it would never have sat well with me to declare I had it...

I think "high functioning" was originally a reference to an IQ greater than 70 - or maybe 80, I forget - and was, if I remember right, originally considered by some to be Asperger's or a form of Asperger's.

Ya know, I was just thinking the other day, there's a weird NT "emotion" I simply cannot understand... it's sort of a happy-rage. Like they'll be happy/excited/etc. about something, yet have a negative tone and even negative facial expressions. They might yell something like, "UGH ar...

I worked off and on at many jobs and spent many years as a hermit, more or less. But I did have a job - the longest ever - for 10 years. But I eventually just couldn't do it anymore. Currently, my daughter is supporting me as I design a company and product line in an effort to support myself. Proble...

Not sure if this is more of an ADD thing, but I found strangely that whenever I was focused on something more low-key, like playing a shooting game, I was better in conversation with people that were in the room. The minute this stimulus was removed, there were problems. You guys notice anything si...

I've been told that I'm strong-willed, but I've also been told that I'm too much of a doormat. Aren't these two things kind of diametrically opposed? Perhaps this observation might apply. I think when you are normally a doormat ( non-aggressive), that this encourages other people to subconsciously ...
