Yeah we're talking about a disconnect with others which is inherent in us. The connectedness that NTs have and take for granted just doesn't exist for many of us. That's why I never played with other kids much as a child, the disconnect comes first and it influences my behaviour. Dealing with others... |

I was exactly like this at that age. It's true that I was clinging to my emotional anchor. Everything else was just too chaotic and scary. |

For me it's because he's spreading false information about aspergers, that it always presents in a very very specific way and anyone who appears different to that really doesn't have aspergers. Whereas we know it's a spectrum and some people will present some of the characteristics, while they may l... |

Thats a tough one. I think its sad, in a way, that we cant ask for hugs. Im not a big hugging person but if it were something I needed how difficult it would be if someone told me it was wrong to do? I will say that I think it was wrong of the principal to ask your son if asking the other kids to r... |

I was disagnosed as an adult but interestingly, although both my parents resisted the conclusion and I had to put pressure on both of them to consider it, my dad was particularly hostile to it, snapping on one occasion "do you want to have aspergers for the rest of your life?!" What he couldn't unde... |

That's okay, but according to Tangerine's philosophy, I should not have been able to tell that he was a troll at all, [...] That's terribly, terribly, mean: trolling a group of people you believe are incapable of realizing that you are toying with them! Never mind that some of us *can* spot it; if ... |

I explain the feeling I had before I was capable of complete conversation like this: it's like that feeling that you have a word on the tip of your tongue but you just can't say it but all the time. The child is frustrated. I would pull on my mom's hand and point at what I wanted and if she didn't ... |

They're coming at situations the way they would deal with a problem with an NT child. That's the biggest issue facing people on the spectrum. I had the same trouble at school and unfortunately didn't have a diagnosis so it basically reduced me to a nervous wreck. That PE teacher reminds me of many a... |

I got it right on second reading before scrolling down to see I was correct, but this is very very confusing and there are lots of reasons grown ups could get this wrong, never mind little kids, NT or not. Following who's who is tricky. It takes a lot of concentration to follow it. |

Yep this discussion chimes with my childhood experience. Heck, I'm still there lol. I had a very very vivid imagination as a child and I would often play by myself and found hand flapping helped make things even more vivid for me. This spooked my parents of course as I was never even suspected of ha... |
