RayErnest, Thank you for your perceptive voice. After reading Chronos I was feeling terrible about my son's struggles. Blaming myself that I had not been teaching him better ways to organize. Bad mom syndrome! My son truly struggles with executive function. Far more than his AS, ADD or any other iss...

Reading your story brings tears of frustration to my eyes. I went through this and feel like it is a never ending battle. I wish they we had done what DenvrDave recommends. Only grade on test scores. So many AS kids struggle with the social piece, the navigation of their day... that when they get ho...

Silent stares back can help. You are wise. Do not trust her. I am so sorry you are dealing with this kind of under the radar bully. She is mean, cruel and clearly enjoying stressing you out. You do not deserve this kind of work environment. Try to avoid her if you can. As much as possible. Be polite...

Thank you for explaning everything. You are very lucky to have your son in such a fantastic program, with teachers and aides who are so caring. I do not know as much about Tourettes. When my son has anxiety he begins to stim. On another note, my non AS child was a big talker and very loud at age 5. ...

I wonder..... If you have seen an increase in stimming that it may be because of added stress in his classroom. Everyone has ways they cope with stress or their environment. Clicking a pen, twirling Hair, chewing gum, chewing a pencil, tapping the table... For AS kids it can be Repeating words, flap...

Hi It is okay if he stims. Truly it is okay. Who cares? I don't. I would bet there are 1000s on WP who stim and could care less if he does. I know it is hard for a mom. I am one. I do understand. My son used to flap his arms. Yes, it could be the medicine. Biphentin is a methylphenidate drug. The me...

Hi All, Thanks again for all your words of wisdom. I wanted to write a follow up on all that has changed. There are days I still feel worn out but I was very upfront with the school in Jan at the IEP meeting. I did not hire an attorney. I led them to believe I had. That we were doing this meeting fi...

I should not have used the words boot camp.

That sounds terrible. And I would never send my son to such a place.
I am thinking more along the lines of structure with explanation
and guidance.

First I do believe you. I am sorry your mom is not helping but I think she wants you to try to take care of yourself. This is really hard for moms to do. But it is important for your well being that she let you take care of you. I also wonder if you have ever been tested for Panic attacks. What you ...

You are really brave. Not everyone is as brave as you to reseach and learn. And you should be super proud of yourself. Trying to find out about you is healthy and smart. Whatever the results will be you know that you have some unique qualities otherwise you would never have been interested in readin...

Was it the Special Ed college support system for students on the spectrum? Was it being prepared for college? Was it living alone? with others? Was it your department and major? Was it an advisor? Was it a friend? Teacher? Classmate? What went wrong? What do you wish had been done for you? Thanks. M...

Hi Chronos,. Excellent advice and I will follow that word of warning. Today he is unable to stay alone in the house. It almost burnt down the last time a gas stove with a pan was left burning, he was unaware or perhaps chose to ignore the smoke. The bathing, personal care, laundry... all excellent w...
