I'm guilty of hand-flapping... I started doing it last year, and I do it when I feel uncomfortable or my body feels tense. I only do this when I'm alone or with close friends, and not for very long (a few seconds), and I can stop at any time. So, my question is: have any of you heard of hand-flappin...

Fashion. Will never get it.

Sports. Ugh.

TV shows.

When I was in my teens I learned the value of getting along with people, and friends (I was a bit of a delinquent). It took me until I was like twenty to get small talk.

I want to learn everything about everything too. That desire is what caused me to use more eye contact when I talk to people. One time we caught a shoplifter at work. She brazenly lied to my manager's face, and then walked out the door. I was irritated (HATE shoplifters), so I didn't look her in the...

A better way was putting two mattresses on top of each other, and a box with about 40kg (90lbs) of paper on top of it. Then, I crawled between the mattresses - and stayed there for like half an hour and then came out totally relaxed :) .

Thank you for the mattress idea. You rock.

I find chamomile to be effective for anxiety, but I do not believe herbs or vitamins can do anything to alter or lessen the neurological handicaps of autism. Unless you count marijuana dulling sensory input and decreasing social anxiety, but you can't use it all the time or you'd never get anything...

I have recently started taking valerian in the evenings. I had been having a really hard time dealing with bad anxiety, generally feeling that things "weren't right" and not sleeping. It completely knocks me out. I'm asleep (or sitting dead calm) about 30 minutes after I take it. I really didn't be...

Who here has gone on a vitamin, supplement, alternative diet, or naturopathic regimen to help ASD symptoms? Experiences? Thoughts-questions-comments-concerns?

I just started taking 5HTP for anxiety.

(eg: GFCF diet, GABA, 5HTP, vegetarian, vegan, etc.)

I have fainted several times. Two of them were triggered by a bout of panic, from which I woke up screaming uncontrollably. I still have no answer as to what causes such a ghastly symptom. It's interesting, isn't it? ASD is supposed to be a variation of the nervous system though. The most common in...

I just went in for a flu shot the other day and fainted. Officially, this mechanism is called a vasovagal syncope, and is usually triggered by specific things like shots.

Because it is related to the nervous system, I thought I'd ask: how many of you here have fainted, and why?

i really wanted our marriage to work Although you are more than entitled to your own opinion about your own marriage, could the fact that you phrased that in the past tense be a clue you're done with this marriage? Rudy Simone, the writer of Aspergirls, states that 80% of all marriages with Aspies ...

Asthma, or complications thereof, can be related to an overactive immune system. So can allergies, eczema, and other nerdy conditions. Autism has been said to be due to an overactive nervous system. One of the biggest ties between both systems are the adrenal glands, which release stress hormones. *...

I'm a female who thinks I'm on the spectrum, even though everybody says I'm not. Sucks to be subclinical. I'm a student, an employee and a volunteer who is heavily involved with other people but still behaves like a loner. I have to consciously make a decision to keep in touch with my friends. I dre...

There's more to it than a coincidence, but less than you'd like to believe. Consider that people with ASD have different brains in the first place. We are part of a species that is irrevocably social, and we don't connect up socially the way others do. We are bound to feel like our entire beings are...

I use earplugs. However... I can still hear people whisper with them on, not to mention the things I am trying to block out. (Is this supposed to happen?)

Does anybody know of a particularly good brand of earplugs, or something better than earplugs?

Let's just say I'm sick of random idiots being drawn to me because I have breasts and I'm average looking as opposed to revolting. I don't feel like typing out details... So, what are some ways to deflect attraction? I'd cut off my hair, but I like it too much. Not willing to go that far. Maybe I s...
