maybe I am cynical but I just see these diagnostic criteria as a way for government agencies and health organizations to limit the amount of resources being expended. We know there was a huge explosion of people diagnosed in the spectrum after the changes in the DSM last time around. Then there was ...

it seems kind of pointless to me. Never one to have a crush on celebrity or some fantasy image. Some guy making pelvic motions, and taking off his clothes, "tying off" to make himself look hard, etc, kind of oogy actually. I have been backstage at a male revue and it was pretty disgusting what they d...

 I answered the question "No" because I didn't even see the question about Pluto until after I had clicked , and thought I was answering if I took ballet. Ballet was one of my early obsessions. I learned to read around age 3 or 4 because I had two books "Black Beauty"about horses ( my other obs...

I am horse obsessed. But I hang out with a bunch of other horse riders, and none of them is as obsessed about it as me. I have studied everything I can about them and my friends ask me if their horse is hurt or sick or having troubles. It is practically the only thing I can spontaneously converse ab...

thank you wavefreak for responding to my post. The two doctors I spoke to actually also work in the only diagnostic clinic for spectrum disorders in my area. But I understand what you are saying about them having other bias because they know me personally from work. Frankly, despite what they said, ...

OK, I put this in the on line tests thread, but maybe this is a better place. I took those online tests and every one of them put me in an extreme score that may indicate autism. And I've always thought I was, and as a kid I had stereotypies/hand flapping/fascination with water, odd speech, shyness,...

OK, I talked to a couple of psychiatrists and psychologists that I know at work about these tests and asked them if they thought I could be ASD based on their interactions with me over several years of working together, and they said "no way", but I score autistic on all the tests, and feel like so ...

thank you Aimless for those 2 articles. That was very interesting explanation. Perterd I had the same experience, but not from my folks. mostly peers, who interpreted my blank facial expression/lack of eye contact as either sadness or boredom with them. Since I found this forum, I looked at my kid a...

it seems to me that many of the social rules of NT's involve lying. Yet all the big religious books and such have "not lying" as one of their most important rules. Maybe because many NT's lie all the time they need such a rule? Someone asks you how you are, you're supposed to answer "fine"- even if ...

I do enjoy a few girlie things like nicely scented products like candles, lotions, cooking, sewing and knitting and "doing lunch"with a couple of friends. But I don't wear makeup, don't like fashion, nor shopping, nor gossiping, did n't play with dolls or house when younger, so I guess its a mix.

I chose not to have kids before I ever discovered there was a label to my many "symptoms". I just never felt the urge to have them myself. I am different that way from many. Doesn't mean I have to put down another's life or feel I have to defend my choice. The world is full of unwanted kids. And the...

pretty strange to hold a large meeting for people with sensory processing issues in a hard surfaced echo-ey room, and to hold an unstructured meeting for a bunch of folks who usually feel more comfortable with structure. If it was me, I wouldn't go back, unless some changes were made. You come acros...

Wonderful story.

Does your life feel as wonderful as it sounds?

do you think AS has changed your life or is it just part of it?

For some I think it is just different ability truly, not a disability. Doesn't everyone want to be able to pursue their passions and transcend their barriers?

I think SI= self injury

I didn't realize a lot of these behaviors were stimming either- because I do some of them LOL. I would probably think they were stimming if I saw other people do them. I wonder how many NT people do these things too, but just hide them maybe?
