I am a Jewish Aspie. Fear me for I truly run the world! Nah, I don't think Aspies control the world, but I do think a disproportionate number of them make significant contributions and I think it owes to our inherent inability to conform. If were not aware of social norms, how can we comply with the...

I just got back from the psychologist, who confirmed without ambiguity or doubt my suspicion of Asperger's.

Now on to figuring out how to live life with this new-found knowledge in hand!

What a lot of fascinating insight... Joe90, totally agree. If someone some part of me sees as a porcupine says something nice to me, I assume that they are good once again and any negative opinions instantly evaporate. Like wavefreak, I am not able to determine how other people think and feel. On th...

... I also have absolutely no trust for anyone, not even most of my family. I have no idea who I can trust, so I only give one chance for people to prove themselves trustworthy before I start thinking about how they might hurt me. ... This, rather than the hatred itself, is the source of our differ...

... I will tend to avoid certain people or situations if I've had a bad experience. I do remember, but my solution is avoidance. There is a lot of sense to that. My approach to people who have hurt me tends to be like a dog might be with a porcupine after trying one once -- avoid the pointy end. No...

What got me to start serious self-discovery and find this forum and learn more about AS was an event a few weeks ago where someone I trusted and respected a great deal back-stabbed me very badly, stopping my career dead in its tracks. In spite of that, I have no bad feelings toward that person and h...

The easiest way to learn to code is by setting yourself a programming objective and forcing yourself to accomplish it. There are tons of on-line references for every conceivable language so finding specific functionality and basic examples is fairly trivial. Personally I find object oriented languag...

Sorry for my bad English. Actually, I wanted to know, when you noticed your symptoms. Depends on your definition of noticed. :) I've always known myself to be some degree of unusual, but only now at the end of my 20s have I found something resembling a label for my particular brand of idiosyncrasie...

Hated sounds: - Gas lawn mowers - Highlighters and markers being used - Any kind of background noise at all when I'm trying to have a conversation - Music where I cannot make out the words (which covers most of the last century's music) - Chewing - Car alarms - Any unnecessarily loud noise -- partic...

Oh come on. You know the grandchildren will love it. The grandmothers will both feel stupid. And they'll all live happily (and icing covered) ever after.

Or just eat her slice. Tell her she takes the cake! My brother and I fought our whole growing up. But we had an embarrassing fight (over a chocolate croissant) in a hotel in front of the whole extended family as young adults that finally got us to shape up. Maybe you just need to throw a cake in he...

I don't mean calling someone "Husky" or "Big boned" instead of fat. Political correctness is ret*d. I mean the right time to say it is when they're okay with it not just saying it out of the blue. Agreed on all counts. "Do I look fat?" "Yes." should be perfectly acceptable. "You look fat." should n...

I used to imitate emergency vehicle sirens of various types very convincingly right up until my voice cracked. Walking to the school bus, on my bike, wherever I was. I lived in the deep country so the few neighbours all eventually knew what was up when they heard sirens... just me passing by again. ...

I agree with both the OP and the comments: it was hyperbolic and sent a negative message to a young mind. But the broader question of why honesty offends is important. How many people here have been caught in the dating trap of "I would like to be friends" meaning "please never talk to me again"? It...

I am naturally a night person, but for some reason find it hard to function in society if I go to bed at 9 am and get up at 5 pm, my favourite times to do so... When I lived that way I called days with business-hour appointments "pulling an all-dayer". There is something peaceful and serene about li...
