One would think that him being able to identify what he needs and ask for it would see him being congradulated, not punished. You need to meet with the principle as soon as possible and you need to get some disability advocate to be at the meeting with you. You cannot and should not be sending your...

If anyone else does similar things to these, please let me know. My son does something similar although he doesn't keep them in his room. I set the table at dinner but then he picks it all up and rinses it off and either air dries it or uses a paper towel to dry it. He'd much prefer I use paper pla...

Nurse911, I can totally relate to your situation. I've seen my DS14 trying things he never would have thought of before just to impress his peers, but all of us know that this is typical adolescence, not just ASD. I, unfortunately, am still experiencing these behavior so I don't really have any inci...

Seems to be a common issue because I've seen it too. It's amazing to me when I read all the posts that there are so many similarities with my son and others! Where would I find an autism advocate to come to my son's school cause they are clueless! Diet is a big trigger and definitely small snacks so...

I think a diary is a great idea, my memory is terrible. We keep a diary for DS8's migraines and what happened on those days and that has helped us form a pattern for his migraines. Still no luck with a new doctor, going to call my insurance today for a list of providers they'll accept. In the meanti...

my kids get along alright for the most part but i certainly understand the concern of ones disfunction effecting the others. i see how my ds5's multiple meltdowns, issues and behaviour problems negatively effect the other kids and change who they are. at this stage they are really too young to unde...

If I had thought about that the night he went to the ER I would totally have done that but my insurance company requires that I contact my primary doctor first and they wouldn't allow it. Primary doctor has already told me he won't help, go back to psyhiatrist, even if it's another one.

I'm still having problems with DS14's psychiatrist and his meds. Every time we go she maintains that he needs to be on his medicine and isn't hearing us when we say we want him off. I put a call in to the medical director who phoned me on Monday. All she did was have the doctor call me yesterday. I ...

Beyond all that ... it's never going to be perfect. Families are all about learning to live together even when it's challenging. Consider it an advanced version of the lesson, and assume that God or nature or whatever you believe in wouldn't have assigned your family the advanced course if it could...

I highly doubt the teacher would have given him a pass to be honest. That was the first thing DS said to the counselor, he felt the same way. I suppose he should have at least asked. He does know right from wrong and it's their feeling that if the rules keep getting him into trouble then eventually...

Since this year we've been having so many issues with DS14, I've been getting some totally uncharacteristic reports from DS8's teacher. He did something totally inappropriate today in class and I'm very worried that some of the behaviors I see in DS14 are effecting DS8. When I spoke to him about it ...

Have you considered CBT? He is definitely old enough to benefit from it. If you decide to step him down, or even if you don't, I would definitely pursue that. And PS: I am painfully neurotypical and spent 2 hours doing my hair every morning before school as a teen too. Many boys are no different :w...

He is actually on 200 mg. a day (100 mg. pills) which is the maximum dose. :? And here it is the end of another week and still no response from the doctor on how to step him down. Do you think the pharmacist will help me if I call them? His doctor said that OCD is treated with the higher dose, 200m...

I am not a doctor, but if SSRIs are a problem for your child (as they are for many, apparently), perhaps your doctor would be able to comment on the pros and cons of using clomipramine. It is a tricyclic antidepressant ( not an SSRI) that is approved for the treatment of OCD... Not sure but I will ...
