Cancelled due to weather.
We'll have to reschedule it for later on in the month.

Thank you so much for those suggestions! IEP meetings make me incredibly nervous because I have to walk the line of advocating for my son and telling a professional how to do their job. That's a great approach, to ask them how to address it and put it in the IEP, especially since I don't really know...

My 15 year old son's IEP is this afternoon, and I asked him what he would like me to say on his behalf, and he asked that they 'be less direct' in the way they approach him at school. I asked him for further explanation, and he said that they make him feel like an idiot. It's kind of pulling teeth, ...

What the doctors came up with is, yes something's there, but they're going to wait and see what it looks like in 6 months. I am getting a second opinion. As for my son, first I apologized to him for not telling him right away what was happening. Then I explained that I waited because I didn't want h...

I am a single parent of a 12 year old boy with autism. I have just received a positive mammogram. I have no idea how to broach this with my son, and there's no way I'll be able to keep it from him entirely, either. If anyone has gone through this - first of all, I'm sorry. And I would really appreci...

I've left a message at the school for the principal to call. She's not in yet. I think this is just getting started.

Oh, tomorrow's going to be fun. Today my son was assaulted by a student at school. He goes to a school for kids with behavior issues, including autistic kids who have problems integrating in public schools. A kid took after him, when she was stopped by a teacher she elbowed her in the face, cornered...

Yeah, she completely undermined the training he has been going through for the past year. Although it was fantastic that he tried the techniques. And eventually he will have to learn to ignore people harping at him and stick up for himself. Though he's not ready for that.

I'm pretty sure she has no clue. She's always beyond shocked when she gets constructive criticism. First of all, she tends to gloss over it and forget about it. Then whenever anyone says, here's where you need to improve, instead of saying got it, she says, but I was doing really great. And there ar...

He needs therapy, not medication. Start having it documented by outside sources. If there is a mental health crisis line, call it when he tantrums. They won't persecute him, but if you have an outside record of his pattern (because, of course, no one believes the parents) then you can use it to appl...

How can they ban you from seeing her?
Call a news station and tell them what's going on. They love stories like that. It's exploitative, but you better believe they'll make changes.

Still guilty about this. She has requested a week off for vacation a month from now, and it has been decided that that's when she'll stop working with my son. That will give them a month to find someone new, which can be tricky. They haven't told my son's worker. Their policy is to give a 2 week not...

Thank you. There are so many things that should have been the last straw. That's the other thing I'm beating myself up over - I should have done something ages ago. It's just gotten to the point that she's unprofessional. Every day something happens that makes me question her judgement. And she come...

Ugh, this is making me sick to my stomach. I could tell you stories that would make you cringe, but I'll spare you. But now, my son will think I'm mean (at least) for taking away his friend (that was one of her problems - major boundary issues), we're going to have to interview for a new worker, we'...

Okay, intense reactions here. I am so sorry to hear about your brother aligerous. And that's exactly what I want to avoid. Police and mental health issues don't mix well, in my mind. Which is why I was questioning, what's the point in calling them? A BHP is a behavioral health professional, and what...
