Autism is lifelong, but the most overt symptoms can be managed through therapy and medication, eventually to the point where it is so mild that a diagnosis might no longer be apt, you've still got the gene - and therefor you're still autistic, but it's not longer such a "disability" I don't think I... |

I love how I am being called a troll for asking a legitimate question. And to those that ask me why I feel I can diagnose my friend. I'm not diagnosing him, I'm disagreeing with him. I've know him for over 10 years and he displays non of the traits. He even tries to lie about being socially awkward... |

Just found this girls website. She claims she was diagnosed as having autism at the age of 2 but she is now no longer diagnosed as autistic. But she still calls herself an "aspie". Autism can be cured or go away on its own? I was not aware of this. |

Have you been paying attention? It's not strictly a self-diagnosis at this point - family, friends, my therapist, and my PCP all agree with this with minimal (actually, practically non-existent) convincing. My therapist has written that she is certain I have Asperger's Syndrome on my diagnostic ref... |

becuase people need servies? why would some one want servies that do not help them. this does not make sence. you are not making sence. It makes perfect sense. This individual probably wants special treatment or possibly even mental disability checks so they don't have to work. It is quite obvious ... |

Actually, I don't desire an Asperger's Diagnosis (it's one of the main reasons why I haven't gone - and don't intend to - to a doctor yet). The damn thing is incurable and has no advantages at all. Unfortunately, it seems to be the best way to explain how my mind works. You are not the kind of pers... |

I want a diagnosis because I am already autistic, and I will likely need this information recorded for access to services. According to another thread you posted in you said you weren't diagnosed by a professional as autistic yet. And your motives are now clear. You want to be diagnosed so you can ... |

I had doctors say different things about my son. Pervasive developmental delay, sensory processing disorder, and nothing (Yeah, right family doctor!). He is SOMETHING. I think aspergers is likely for him although he is harder for me to peg then my husband. My husband is 29 year old who feels like a... |

So you are the kind of person I'm talking about. Not officially diagnosed but dead set on having the diagnosis. You are only a few weeks out. You say that as if you were going on vacation or receiving a promotion. Why do so many of you desire or need to have this disorder? I went to therapy because... |

Empirical evidence is a valid form of research. Many doctors use this site for that reason. many of the tests used in dxing asperger's are posted here. And the confirmation of signs and symptoms by a knowledgable, informed and experienced community can help guide someone to self diagnosis. In many ... |

I never wanted a diagnosis of anything. I remember dreading going and getting tested as a kid. The only thing good about it is I missed a day of school. I wanted to miss for a different reason besides going and waiting to talk to experts at a clinic. It took hours, too, and was so boring. At that t... |

People who are "disgusted" by others who don't meet their standards are unfortunate. Never said I was disgusted by those that don't meet my standards. I said I was disgusted by those who self diagnose. I wonder if this disgusted person who isn't crazy  is aware of the myriad of self-identifie... |

Well, considering that doctors experienced in Dxing Aspergers in adults are few and far between and that there are no standardized diagnostic criteria for adults and that many doctors try to apply the childrens dx criteria to an adult without accounting for age, education or maturity... how do you ... |

I've only be on this forum for a day and I am shocked by the amount of people that self diagnose and straight appear to desire having Aspergers. Why is that? Others that do seek a professional opinion end up saying things like "my doctor is an idiot" or "my doctor isn't experienced enough". I even s... |
