I found this really simple trick that seems to work with my daughter who is almost 9 herself (though all kids are different). It's a simple statement of "3 and 10" which means 3 deep breaths and counting to 10. It seems to give her time to put things into perspective. Sometimes I have to do it multi...

I've gone beyond calculus and done so without use of a calculator. I'm excellent at both abstract and standard mathematics. At the moment, I'm studying to be a high-school math teacher. Not that I can't go higher, but I think the secondary grades as opposed to college are a better place to reach mor...

Eric, please go to http://www.gettingthetruthout.org and go all the way through it. This film was specifically designed to paint autism (even "severe autism" as you put it) in the worst light. Gettingthetruthout examines the images provided by these autism organizations and their motivation for doin...

If you would like to send a letter, you are welcome to use this one (plagiarize as you see fit) or write your own and you can send it to the following e-mail addre...

Apparently this film is/has been given to congressmen to try shock them into bringing in the "Combating Autism Act". As far as I can gather the main purpose of this act is to force insurence companies to cover autism so that poorer families have access to actual treatment. Previously they had been ...

Single AS Mom here of 7 YO. Ex had paranoia issues and was an alcoholic also. Best thing I can say is to not go back to it. It took me awhile and I had to be firm and stand my ground, but I'm so much happier now because of it. My child seems happier too - some things could be better, but when she is...

Just out of curiosty what is your 'plural' definition of Asperger's? I don't mean the text book definition but what does it mean in real terms? Good question - I haven't spent time thinking of an actual definition - so if anyone can think of anything better, please add. Also - please recognize that...

That sucks. I've been an analyst in about 5 different call centers - and that seems to be the trend: "Path to profitability." They call it something different each time, but it means the same thing. Besides looking for a job, you could try to get a different job within the same company (being in man...

You know I am just too scared to tell him in case it reinforces the ideas he has already that he is a 'ret*d' as he calls himself. I have tried like you said - one side of his brain is over developed and the other side is under developed. I talked to him about this after his educational assessment ...

Good for you, Anandamide. Here's the thing - I agree with one of the previous posters who said that bosses like that are few and far between. I'd like to add to that by saying that employers like that are few and far between as well. They are very willing to work with you, and this could turn out to...

Is there any other position that you could do that wouldn't require the hand-eye coordination? If you're honest and direct with your boss - and if there is another position that you could do - maybe you could ask for a trial period doing something else. It is hard to say - each boss is different - t...

I'm undiagnosed, but show so many of the signs that I'm pretty sure. This is definitely a real career change. I've been looking for the right thing for awhile, and am ready to move forward to get the degrees I need to be succesful in this change. To some degree, it is an interest since I've always l...

So - I'm currently a Business Analyst - I've worked for relatively high-end companies and on some pretty decent projects of report development and business situational analysis. I've kind of gotten to the point though, through trying different industries and different departmental data, where I'm no...

If art is the key have you considered graphic design or computer animation? They can be quite lucrative even when you aren't famous.

There are degree programs that can lead you toward careers in those fields.
