he's lucky to have you.
give him space, and keep letting him know you want to see him. he'll come around eventually. |

einstein had autism. he was ashkenazi jewish, which has a very high prevalence of autism. if you read books about how einstein came up with the theory of relativity, he was obsessed with asking "why". (autism / systematizer). and he did this endlessly, which is a sign of alexithymia. be proud, he wa... |

This particular study doesn't have anything to do with autism, does it? yes it does; this is using autism research. but this type of study is much broader, because it stereotypes society AGAINST the majority of people here. do you walk around telling everyone your diagnosis? for every 1 bad autism ... |

has anyone ever thought of running an organized regular wrongplanet media-vigilante campaign against bad research like this: http://michaelinzlicht.com/news/media/15%20edm_may2010.pdf here's a quote: "Participants in the study -- all white men -- watched videos of white, black, South Asian and East ... |

thanks for the responses everyone.
my suspicion is that alexithymia correlates with a high IQ, but i can't find anything to prove it.
there are some real gaps in published autism research which is a little troubling. |

does anyone know if there is a correlation between alexithymia and IQ? i've been trying to figure this out, but as usual, psychology is focused on our weaknesses, not our strengths. there's a lot of discussion of problems related to alexithymia but very few related to whether as a group this include... |

Heh, whenever someone tries to tell it's impossible for me to do something I just go ahead and do it anyways. Stubbornness and a desire to prove people who want to stop you wrong can make you do things that you had no idea you were capable of and after you do it you still have no idea how you did i... |

Yeah, I can (and often do) force myself to make eye contact. It feels unpleasant, but I do it regularly to avoid coming across as rude/shady. if you had to make as much eye contact as NTs do -- or even more, to make up for lost time, could you do it and still maintain natural conversations? what if... |

As for the eye contact thing, I do look at people. I just don't look at people all the time. If I'm concentrating on what I'm saying, I'm definitely not gonna be looking them in the eye. The phrase... "do you want me to talk with you or do you want me to look at you?" is very applicable. I have tro... |

you can grow out of it if you address the compensating behaviors which caused it: romanian orphans grew up with autism but are now leaving the spectrum after they were adopted by UK families (and getting the right social interaction): http://childmyths.blogspot.com/2010/12/when-romanian-orphans-grow... |

do you feel you make exactly the same amount of eye contact as an NT during a conversation? I don't know, but it doesn't matter. Autism causes people to not make eye contact, not the other way around. There is an actual physical neurological difference in the brains of people with autism vs without... |

I have always had trouble recognizing people's faces. Some people are less problematic and some just don't stick. A lot of times, people look familiar but I feel uncertian if it is the person I think it is. Once I saw my boss (I think it was my boss) at the video store but I was so unsure wheather ... |

Is it possible to have face-blind problems but not, for example, be completely unable to recognize family/friends? I definitely have issues remembering/recognizing faces, but it's not to the point where I won't be able to to tell who my mom is. Example of how it affects me - I have a coworker who s... |

for those of you that can't recognize faces -- how much eye contact do you make during conversations? try watching an NT -- they will almost stare intently at the other person during a conversation. in my experience with 2 people with face blindness so far, they spent 99% of the time during our conv... |

https://www.faceblind.org/research/ Scroll down a bit. There are many reasons for developmental prosopagnosia, including genetics, early brain damage, and vision issues. thanks, thats helpful. it seems shocking to me that this isn't better understood. aside from coming up with solutions, it seems l... |
