I struggle with this. This is what I perceive, from my 'unique' point of view, even though it is tangential with what you have described in perfect detail: people are willing to let others into their group, and only judge if that person doesn't give them the security the group desires. This favors t... |

The thing I love about this forum is that it demonstrates the struggles with Theory of Mind in ways that we can all relate to. When we hear 'that' in correspondence to an object, it is interpreted as 'that', and only 'that'. This is relative to the 'forest and the trees' analogy, where we can't alwa... |

For me, having mild Asperger's is frustrating because I can be so normal and responsive with certain people, particularly family and adults, but still fail to keep friendships going with peers. Is it an inability to reach out based on lack of knowledge on how to go about it? Why is this a problem fo... |

To all high-functioning NTs, consider yourselves lucky, because if it is hard to tell, it ain't that bad |

To be pure is to be 'you'. People think this is weird, because they want 'them'. Don't trust these people. |

Sometimes it is better to steer clear of those people. Even though they pretend to be 'nice' to you, they are only doing this to establish a sense of power over you by being cruel. |

Be careful who you're nice to. People that are insecure can be unpredictable and take advantage of this in unpredictable ways :? leaving the innocent Aspie confused and wondering as to why that person would do something like this, what did I ever do to him/her? This is a world of exploitation, be ca... |

Guile is a form of deception in order to get what you want. This can be a good thing if you want to trick people into believing you're something you're not based on how you come across through appearance, and a bad thing if and only if you're the kind of person who has low self-worth and uses guile ... |

Only situations in which I've been taken advantage of were situations where I was tired and lost the energy to socialize. As this happens, I tend to become too trusting and open about certain things, and then it goes from there. It may seem subtle, but it hurts just as much as on the other extreme. ... |

Aspies can be gifted in compensation for areas of the brain that are atypical in their development. From my experience, I had severe developmental delays from age 2-5, and even though I've outgrown these, the deficits are still there albeit in a mild form. In a sense, Aspies that are gifted at spell... |

I guess it depends on the environment. Due to a survival instinct, people predisposed to Asperger's syndrome or a related social deficit revert to shyness or become quiet as a reaction in order to feel "safe". So maybe "quiet and shy" or "weird" is a way of saying, "I'm protecting myself from harm, ... |

The blank stare strikes again! It bothers me because it goes away when I'm socializing in a group, but when I am directly talking to someone, my eyes start to fade into the distance :/ |

Unfortuantely I struggle with this. It's hard sometimes for me to express how I feel especially in words, I seem normal in certain situations, but there are windows of vulnerability where I get thrown off. It's as if I am blind-sided and it may have to do with mild cognitive impairment. Sometimes I ... |
