I've always known I was different from other people - a "loner" who had trouble fitting in but as a child I always attributed it to losing my mother at an early age, moving around a lot during the first seven years including immigrating from the U.S. to England and having a father who drank a lot an...

the interesting point is why do so many of us prefer childish or age inappropriate things when many of us have high IQs? For me I am pretty sure it's a certain emotional immaturity and also an attempt to "catch up" and understand the things my peers were interested in when I was little because at th...

I can basically fake it now. I only found out I had AS about a year and a half ago. I think I've been faking being NT for a long time without knowing what I was doing. I think most people who know me well may think I'm a bit "wierd" or "different" but are either too polite to say it or put me into t...

When I was sixteen I still liked playing with dolls, trolls and soft toys and over 20 years later I still have most of them. Even though I don't play with them now (other than some hugs) I still think I'd like to if I had the time. I like watching kids' movies and reading kids books and always did. ...

Me too. I tiptoed a lot as a child and my parents and grandparents used to think I'd be a good ballerina. Unfortunately, I was also a complete clutz so that didn't last. I still run around on tiptoes now when I'm exceited and I like to go barefoot at home.

I love all animals and firmly believe they should have equal/comparable rights to humans. Pets are wonderful friends and companions - loyal and non-judgmental. I have to confess I can be far more tolerant and forgiving of animal behavior than human. There's something about animals which is pure and ...

I can relate to all of you and am quite relieved that I'm not alone in this. I too feel very uncomfortable if someone stands too close and intrudes uninvited into the invisible "bubble" around me. Like some of you, I'm OK with acquaintances or family that I perceive as friendly but become very agita...

It seems like this is an issue for a significant number of us. I have a huge problem with sitting next to strangers too, especially on public transport, planes etc if the person seems to be encroaching on my space. I don't mind as much if the stranger is respectful about it and there are no other se...

I can understand you I feel. I was this close to being engaged to a man who truly understood me condition and all then I lost him in a accident 5 years ago  . Now I feel so unattractive to anyone period. I miss my bf with all my heart but so long for someone to like me for me, someone to cuddl...

I agree. It seems a lot of aspie women do have relatively successful marriages but we don't hear so much about them in the media etc. The "role models" seem to be single women who have made a name for themselves because of their careers or outspokeness. I'm a big Temple Grandin fan too although as a...

Lots of bullying at high school unfortunately and grade school too. I always knew it was because I was different but I couldn't figure out why. I thought it was because I was new to the neighborhood or from a differnt background but then couldn't understand why other new kids fit in so easily and I ...

I'm a bit older than you guys and am still single. I've only recently realized I almost certainly have AS and where it shows the most I think is in personal relationships. I definitely have a fear of intimacy and a need to spend a lot of alone time. Too much interaction exhausts me - I guess it's se...

I agree with Auri. I actually think it would be selfish for me to have kids because I'm not sure I could give them the love and attention that they would deserve and I think some of my aspie tendancies might annoy or embarass them. That being said, part of my motives are selfish too. I lost my own m...
