... I felt an excess of energy that I couldn't do anything with, so I paced around the house for about an hour. I actually felt better after I calmed down than I did when I was "happy". An excess of energy you can't do anything with - that's a perfect description for the feeling. Thanks for the rep... |

Who believes all that stuff about deep pressure being especially good for people with AS and autism? I don't know many people who would refuse a good massage. I don't think anyone said deep pressure is "good for" people on the autistic spectrum. But it's been observed that people with various neuro... |

Whenever we talk about the things that overstimulate us, we talk about physical stimuli like light and noise and odor and texture, etc. But what about stimuli/activities that we enjoy? Maybe even our obsessions themselves? For example, my biggest, life-long obsession has been comparative religion. I... |

I'm not entirely sure what deep pressure is , is it painful? Some people on the autistic spectrum enjoy (are comforted/calmed by) sensations of deep pressure - as opposed to a light touch. It could range from a good firm hug or massage to lying under "props" such as heavy (even specially-made weigh... |

I was dependent until my parents kicked me out of the house at age 23. I certainly wouldn't recommend that path to anyone, but it has been a valuable learning experience. While I think it's a blessing to have people in our lives that we can depend on, it can also make it too easy to overlook our own... |

Wanted to second (or third) your post. At an extreme level, I want/need someone to make sure I'm not laying dead for a week in my apt. before anyone bothers to notice I'm gone. Y'know ? I want to second yours in return - this is one thought absolutely haunts me. I could die today, here on my couch,... |

It's not directly aspie, but I've always identified with the sticker that says "I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter" |

When someone asks me "How's it going?" I like to respond with "It's almost gone." HAH! I like that, I'll have to try it next time. I tend to fall back on "Slowly" since that's usually how I feel in the office. It's... going..... ver..y... slowly. Plus it creates a break in the person's habitu... |

I'm so sorry, Cowgirl, I know how painful losing a friend can be. I recently lost someone I had felt close to and believed I could trust, so the betrayal still feels fresh for me. My family never took the time to understand me either, so they're not in the picture. I'd like to offer words to help bu... |

I want friends for two reasons. First, I believe that life is incomplete without connecting to people. It's tough to explain without getting too deep into my spiritual beliefs, but I just don't think we can know ourselves completely without getting to know others, and as humans we tend to form socie... |

It's suffocating, it actually makes me feel like the person is closing in on me and I can't breathe. I mostly talk to people at work so I find excuses to write a note or fidget with a pen or refer to the computer screen while talking so I don't have to think about eye contact. When I do try to hold ... |

I automatically think of friendship as temporary, because in 30 years it always has been. I'll occasionally connect with someone, have a lot in common, spend loads of time together, naively think this time it might last... Then they're gone. I never know why. There's never been an *incident* - it's ... |

Does anyone have prosopagnosia (face blindness)? It's hard enough to know how to respond to fake questions ("Hi, how are you?") when you know who you're talking to, but when a random face walks up in the break room and says "How's it going?" and I can't identify him, he could be using general fake q... |

Actually I had hope in the beginning too. And for the first year, every session included a feedback form - which itself made me more hopeful. Not only are they opening up to the uniqueness of their employees but they want to hear if we think they're doing it right. So, yes, I always gave very detail... |

Thanks for your replies. Ugh, after reading the posts I've read here in the past couple days I almost feel I'm not allowed to thank you, but the truth is I'm grateful you've both spent your own time thinking through this with me. It's validating to know I'm not the only one who sees what's wrong wit... |

I work for a Fortune 500 company, and as has become required (aka trendy) we now have an active diversity committee creating various programs and training sessions to show our collective sensitivity to the ... |
