I've forced myself to make eye contact and am now used to it. However, now I make too much eye contact. Apparently, you're supposed to look away every so often, so the person doesn't think you're weird or in love with them. I'm 40 years old and what you're going through is similar to what I went through growing up. I did have friends, but they were few and far in between. As I got older, people have continued to be mean to me at work. I studied sociology in college and even taught it as a college professor for 9 years....
