On August 11 2014, KUAF 91.3, the NPR station in Fayetteville, Arkansas, aired an interview with me called “From Engineer to Therapist.” I had an absolute blast with Kyle Kellams that day, as we talked about communication, neurodiversity, and my meandering path from engineer to therapist. http://kua...

Thanks for asking about money. I don't have an easy answer, or else the easy answer is that it is simply her money. Where I appear like a controlling jerkface is that I am the one paying the rent. Part of what was confusing was that I was out earning money at the exact moment that she was spending i...

Thanks to both of you! Yes, she does have an inner wisdom. And I can learn a lot about being relaxed and happy from her. And, it does not cause any harm. When I was married to a fellow gifted Aspie, we never did much and we never spent much money. Miserly and miserable have the same root! There was ...

Hi, How do people connect with a need for frivolity? I'm talking about spending money on things like manicures. My partner has told me that she has her own "nervous system needs"- language used to parallel my Aspie preferences. Sometimes, feeling carefree and spending some money on jewelry or finger...

OkCupid worked well for me. I was clear about who I am and what I wanted, and I posted videos I made at a story-telling party. You have to find the right balance of attracting what you want and filtering out what you don't want. I think a short video clip can save everybody time: it is like a first ...

sorry, man. it's hard to find good lovers in the middle of nowhere. i doubt you are wanting reassurance, but these blogs kind of lend itself to that response, so forgive me for saying at least you are getting more clear about what you want. This way, when it comes along, you will be able to respond ...

Congrats and good luck! I met my partner on OkCupid. It's better to begin being intimidated by her intelligence- if you are confident and she is kind, that can transform into interested enthralled and appreciative. Sure beats bored!

best,
Bob

As an Aspie, I am often credited with being original. A Google originality search shows that Portland beat me to it. http://portlandpuzzles.org/ Anybody in the SF Bay Area want to exchange puzzles? Hurrah for Ravensburger! At my strongest, I did jigsaw puzzles for two hours a day. How many Aspies li...

I find it matters if somebody can handle depth and intensity more than if they have autistic brain wiring. I have been disinterested in many NT and Aspie people. My closest friends are female gifted NTs.

Thanks for your kind words. I get from checking out your blog that you have benefited from the self-awareness of an Asperger's diagnosis. I don't fully understand all of the actions you reference, and how disclosure played out. If you get the understanding you want with your marriage, your career, a...

I know many people in the autism community are concerned about the impacts of the decision to disclose how their brain works. Even having disclosure be optional is an aspect of privilege; for some, fitting in is not an option. I have sufficient charisma and self-awareness that my Asperger’s may have...

I am often aware of the socially appropriate action, what to say, what to do, or when to bite my tongue, or when to check on my inner catalogue of common behaviors. For every meeting I attend at work, I write down “Stay in room; smile occasionally.” I often hate the meetings; much could be accomplis...

It's important to not make children shamed or wrong for their sexuality. That acceptance frees them up to take on a percentage of useful social conventions of where and how they express their desires.
